La Dauphine has made great strides in recent years and the 2014, despite showing a slightly uncomfortable face at the en primeur tastings, has turned out into a beautifully seamless modern take on the appellation. Very dark blue-black fruit flirting with a certain sweetness, very fine tannins and a suave sweep of volume through the mid-palate, it had a nice lively, juicy bright finish. Can be drunk now at a pinch, but better from 2018, and has a good ten years in it. Drinking range: 2018 - 2030 Rating: 91-91 L&S (May 2017)

The La Dauphine is gorgeous. Succulent black cherries, plums, smoke, licorice and sweet spice meld together in a juicy, forward Fronsac that should drink well pretty much right out of the gate. The style is forward, fruit-driven and racy to the core. There is so much to like here. Rating: 88-91 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (May 2015)

Exuberant cassis aroma. Ripe attack with the cassis still evident - it plays on the fruit. Tannins really fine and supple. Lovely length on the finish. Delicious. (Highly Recommended Fronsac, Decanter.) Drinking range: 2019 - 2026 Rating: 90-90 James Lawther MW, decanter.com (May 2015)

The 2014 La Dauphine was a bit of a minx when I tasted it out of barrel, some bottles showing overripe character and others much fresher. Therefore, I did not score it and crossed my fingers. Well, I am glad I ignored those misfiring bottles, because it has blossomed into a fine Fronsac. It offers attractive blackberry, wild strawberry, dried apricot and crushed violets scents on the nose that seem to build in intensity but wisely never go over the top. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, plenty of red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit; lovely balance with a supple and detailed finish that has superb mineralité. Check out this great Fronsac wine. It's a little gem. Drinking range: 2019 - 2032 Rating: 92-92 Neal Martin, www.robertparker.com (May 2015)
