CHÂTEAU LA PEYRE

2014 Saint Estèphe

Grapes Cab Sauv, Petit Verdot, Cab Franc, Merlot
Colour Red
Origin France, Bordeaux
District Left Bank
Sub-district Haut Médoc
Village Saint Estèphe
ABV 13%

This Bordeaux is a terrific find and a wine with real Saint Estèphe character - the huge 'R' presumably for the owner René. A firm nose of pencil lead and a touch of cigar-box, and a firm fruit that seems to tell of authoritative Cabernet, this is dryly sophisticated, a 'grown-up' wine which is so much more than fruit. Quite concentrated, intense, dark and long. Drinking range: 2019 - 2023 L&S (Jul 2020)

Château La Peyre

Around eight hectares in several plots make up the Rabiller family's property, which the current generation, Dany and René took out of the co-operative in 1994, building their own winery to produce about 50,000 bottles a year. The vineyards are in the Marbuzet sector of Saint Estephe, and are on stony soils.
