The subtle change in style for the Brut Reserve has seen a touch more Pinot Noir used in the blend to differentiate it from the Blanc be Blancs. As a result the wine is more generous, but silky, with ripe fruit, great freshness, good weight and lovely length. Drinking range: 2018 - 2023 L&S (Oct 2018)

*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles (or 9l equivalent) of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.

Based in Kent, Gusbourne is one of England’s finest producers and under the hand of winemaker Charlie Holland its sparkling wines continue to improve. This one’s mostly pinot (60 per cent noir and 18 per cent meunier) and has both elegance and fierce energy. Victoria Moore, The Daily Telegraph(Nov 2018)

Gusbourne

Despite boasting only a short history (the 2006 was their first release) Gusbourne Estate vineyards have notched up quite a reputation, winning awards along the way. The vineyard is at Appledore in Kent, roughly mid-way between Ashford and Rye. Planted with the 'usual' trio of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, the grapes are hand-picked. A small portion of the harvest is fermented in oak, but most of it takes place in stainless-steel before the second fermentation in bottle. The wines are aged on their lees for a minimum of 22 months before dégorgement.

A sparkling ENGLISH selection

Celebrate English Wine Week 2019 or, indeed, celebrate anything else you choose, with a selection of fizz from across the vineyards of southern England. Dorset, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and Kent are all represented. Tuck in, sit back and smile a patriotic smile.

Six of the best from ENGLAND

Much is made of the strata of chalk soil that hosts the vineyards of Champagne, that runs under northern France and the Channel to re-emerge in Kent and Sussex as the Downs, and many of England’s vineyards cling to that very chalk soil. But, crucially, we have the climate, on the very margins of where grapes can be persuaded to ripen, to produce the tart base wines that are ideal for high quality sparkling wine production. All that, the classic grape varieties and much expertise and even more enthusiasm has propelled England to the forefront of the sparkling wine world. In this case we've got wines from five different estates, all with something to say on the subject, and the case includes a couple of cheeky rosés because we do it so well.
