MÂCON CHARNAY

2015 Vieilles Vignes Christophe Cordier

Grapes Chardonnay
Colour White
Origin France, Burgundy
District Mâconnais
Village Mâcon Charnay
ABV 13.5%

Incredibly bright, pretty floral nose. At this level and in this vintage, it is this lift and lightness of touch that is so refreshing. The key here was harvesting at just the right moment. This was all picked before the end of August and before the week of particularly hot weather that hit the area at the beginning of September. Christophe buys in the grapes for this and has been sourcing from the same estate for years. He shares the crop with Verget and the quality is fantastic. This superb plot is all 'old vines' that are more than 50 years old. L&S (Dec 2016)

Wedged between Beaujolais and the Côte d’Or, Macon has been making a comeback, especially as it is a bargain compared with the better known white Burgundies. Christophe Cordier buys in his grapes from the same source as Verget, one of the greatest and most innovative Burgundy producers. The 2015 has a superb freshness and delicacy, despite being made from 50-year-old vines. There is a charming apple like crispness in its aftertaste. It would work best with shellfish or as an aperitif. Bruce Palling, The Week (Jan 2018)

Part of Christophe Cordier’s small négociant range, this cuvée is always sourced from his neighbour’s vineyard. An elegant Mâcon dominated by flowers and ripe apple. The palate is ripe and concentrated but retains good focus and precision. Rating: 90 Sarah Marsh MW, Club Oenologique Magazine (Nov 2017)

Vieilles Vignes mean what they say for once here at over 50 years old, as a result of which there's an aromatic lift to the fruit which is concentrated and rich in liquid apple flavours while the freshness of the natural acidity comes through strongly on the finish. Rating: 89 The Wine Gang - www.thewinegang.com (Jun 2017)

Christophe Cordier

Christophe Cordier, in addition to his domaine wines, has produced a limited number of wines as a négociant, buying in grapes from his neighbours. With control of the picking date and Christophe?s skill as a winemaker, these are very much in the line of the domaine wines.
