2016 Pinot Noir Domaine Joël Rémy
|Sub-district||Côte de Beaune|
We first tasted this when it had been just bottled - whiff of smoke and wood on the nose, then a burst of bright acidity before the dark, ripe, rich blackberry fruit emerges. Some blueberry grip and restraint. Precise, great acidity. All in barrel this year and has lost no freshness at all. (Normally half the juice's elevage is done in stainless steel vats). Fresh, jolly and well balanced. Another very food Bourgogne Rouge from the Remy family. L&S (Oct 2017)
*Case price: Mix any 12 bottles of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.
A simple pinot noir from a good burgundy producer delivers much pleasure. This one is aged in oak, bright as crimson glass beads, with a fullness of flavour and a crunchy clarity.Victoria Moore, The Daily Telegraph(Oct 2018)
Domaine Joël Rémy
A family domaine that extends back five generations to 1853, but which Joël has modernised considerably over the past twenty years, installing new fermentation and ageing equipment.
Just when you think Burgundy is getting a tad expensive, some other upward pressures are applied to prices - small yields and a weak Sterling are the current factors. Luckily for you, there are merchants out there (or here, to be precise) with the nouse to seek out good value even in a region where good value can feel hard to come by. Here's a fine old selection, red and white, all with prices south of £20 a bottle - not necessarily a price to tempt the less discerning away from the discount supermarket but it does mean that us ordinary mortals can still afford to drink Burgundy.
Everyone likes a nice Pinot Noir these days. And everyone is right so to do. But Pinot Noir has an annoying habit of draining one's fiscal resources faster than desirable. Worry not. LEA & SANDEMAN continue to scour the globe in search of outstanding value and are glad to present a nicely-priced selection with all the nobility this variety can muster.
