In the same mold, the 2016 Cairanne La Boutine offers impressive amounts of kirsch, dried earth/loamy soil, and white flowers, and it too is seamless, silky, and polished on the palate, with considerable elegance. Rating: 91 Jeb Dunnuck, www.jebdunnuck.com (Aug 2018)

Here we see the volume turned up with a darker spin to the fruit, blackberry and black plum intensity, lovely aromatics again, woody herbs, ground spice, layered and bold. Immediately your mouth is filled with dark succulent fruit, blackberry, black cherry and plum, there are some notes of dark chocolate, prune and aniseed. But the feel is so balanced and long and will only be helped by a few more years in the cellar. Drinking range: 2021 - 2031L&S (Mar 2021)

Grape variety: Old vines of Grenache noir.

Terroir: Municipality of CAIRANNE, the plot is located at altitude, around 150 m, facing south, on very steep slopes on stony ground: locality "Les Bayes Hautes".

Domaine des Escaravailles

Domaines des Escaravailles was established in 1953 by Jean-Louis Ferran and his two sons, Daniel and Jean-Pierre, in the village of Rasteau.

Today it is run by the third generation of the family, Gilles, the son of Daniel. With vineyards on not only the clay, limestone hillsides of Rasteau, but also in Cairanne, Roaix, Villedieu and St Roman de Malegarde. The estate is run organically and everything is done by hand with the wines made in the cellars in the heart of the property in Rasteau.

The estate takes it's name from the Occitan word for the Scarab Beetle, which you will also find adorning the labels of the wines.
