CHABLIS

2016 Grand Cru Les Clos Domaine Drouhin Vaudon

EN PRIMEUR

(They were able to retain their Bio-dynamic practices with this Grand Cru, despite the conditions. Harvested September 29th) Nice pithy lemon nose - follows to the palate with good restraint and fine lines, nice acidity and quite a ripe core of sweeter, golden mirabelle fruit. Some almost ginger-spice here too and a pineapple cube like crunch. Impressively concentrated middleL&S (Nov 2017)

The 2016 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos is superb, offering up a classy bouquet of lemon oil, preserved lemon, beeswax and almond paste. On the palate, it's full-bodied, richly layered and succulent, with the most power and concentration of any wine in the range, revealing superb depth and chewy extract. While it's a comparatively open-knit, gourmand rendition of this great site, it's a serious, incipiently complex wine that will develop well in the cellar. Drinking range: 2018 - 2032 Rating: 93+ Lisa Perrotti-Brown, RobertParker.com (Aug 2018)

The 2016 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a relatively opulent bouquet, quite powerful with yellow plum and honeysuckle aromas, just a hint of fish oil in the background (actually a tincture that I love). The palate is well balanced with a precise, stem ginger-tinged entry, very good depth in the mouth with a persistent, light spiced finish not unlike Les Preuses in style. Excellent. Drinking range: 2018 - 2032 Rating: 92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Aug 2018)

Three small parcels in Le Clos. Impressive layers and weight here. This has grilled peaches, honeysuckles, slightly creamy spices and an array of citrus notes. The palate has beautiful texture. Smooth, creamy and supple with peaches, citrus, honeysuckles and lightly grilled hazelnuts. Grapefruit zest to close. Drink or hold to 2025. Rating: 94 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Feb 2018)

The Beaune-based merchant Joseph Drouhin has restyled its Chablis Domaine 'Domaine Drouhin-Vaudon' to emphasise its ties with and holdings in (38 hectares) the Chablis vineyard. The Moulin de Vaudon, an 18th Century watermill straddling the Serein River, close to the Grand Cru vineyards of Chablis, is the headquarters and the source of the name. It is the largest estate in Chablis entirely farmed biodynamically.

STORAGE OPTIONS:

Wines bought en primeur are scheduled to arrive in the UK over the course of the next eighteen months. If you do not wish to take home delivery, you may wish to consider where you would like the wines shipped on arrival in the UK. Lea & Sandeman offers duty paid and in bond storage through a dedicated storage company called Elephant Storage. For more details on the terms and fees associated with storage please go to our Storage Homepage or contact our primeurs team for more information.

While helpful, we do not require a firm commitment on delivery destination to process your primeur order at this stage. Our team will be in contact with you when your wines arrive in the UK to confirm the necessary delivery details.
