GEVREY CHAMBERTIN

2016 Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

EN PRIMEUR

After tasting the Vosne there is immediatley more grunt here. More wild fruit. More spice, a touch of leather. Mineral hold too - not a grip, just a firmness which is great. There is more structure here and fuller, still fine tannic build up in the palate - but the fruit is seamless, a lovely tension a finesse that is so smart. Les Survres et Les Justices are the plots. Great drive a touch of warmth to finish but this power is sleek and impressive.L&S (Oct 2017)

(35 hectoliters per hectare produced in 2016; half of this wine was from the frosted Les Justices and the other half from Les Seuvrées): Healthy bright red. Aromas of red fruits and spices complicated by wild notes of iron, fresh blood and game. Fat, silky and smoky, showing insidious depth to its perfumed flavors of red fruits, smoke and spices. This superb village wine finishes with lovely length. Rating: 90-92 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Jan 2018)

(from La Justice and Les Seuvrées). A completely different aromatic profile presents itself with distinct notes of underbrush, warm earth, dark currant, plum and a whiff of the sauvage. The plush yet sleek medium weight plus flavors possess both excellent volume and ample mid-palate concentration while flashing unusually good length for a villages level Gevrey. If this can develop a bit more depth it should merit the upper end of my projected range. Succinctly put, this is potentially terrific for what it is. Drinking range: 2024 - Rating: 89-92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2018)

The 2016 Gevrey Chambertin has an uncomplicated but clean and pure bouquet with redcurrant and raspberry scents, the oak nicely integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, rather conservative in style but with a fine bead of acidity and just a pinch of spice toward the finish. Enjoy this over the next 4 to 6 years. Drinking range: 2019 - 2027 Rating: 87-89 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2017)

La Justice and Seuvrees. White pepper, touch of star anise. Light spice aromas. Silky on the palate. A straight and elegant Gevrey with a firm core of cool, red fruits and an iron note on the finish. Rating: 16.5 Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing (Nov 2017)

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
