GIGONDAS

2016 Domaine la Bouïssière

Grapes Grenache, Syrah
Colour Red
Origin France, Rhône
District Southern Rhône
Village Gigondas
ABV 13.5%

There is an elemental depth to this blood-drenched red which is staggering. It shows rocky, grainy tannins, epic density of plum and damson fruit and a velvety, brocaded texture which sends a shiver down my spine. This is a truly great Gigondas and it will remind you that while you are a mere mortal, this vineyard will make masterful wines like this for centuries to come. I cannot recommend this wine enough if you adore awesome Grenache. Matthew Jukes, Moneyweek (Jan 2019)

70% Grenache, 30% Syrah. This is made in vat and foudre. Fine and classic, deep colour and great fruit depth allied to a cool, liquid freshness which floats on the palate - all this weight of flavour expressed so effortlessly - really lovely. Drinking range: 2019 - 2032L&S (Jan 2018)

The classic wine from this estate is the 2016 Gigondas (66% Grenache and 34% Syrah). Sporting a deep purple color as well as a meaty, rich, complex bouquet of sweet cherries, blackberries, peppered meats, and bouquet garni. Clean, balanced, with building minerality, it's a no-brainer purchase and is going to drink brilliantly for 10-15 years. Drinking range: 2018 - 2033 Rating: 92-94 Jeb Dunnuck, www.jebdunnuck.com (Sept 2018)

Full ruby. Powerful, smoke-accented dark berry, cherry and floral pastille scents are sharpened by suggestions of cracked pepper and minerals. Smoky and appealingly sweet on the palate, offering pliant black raspberry, cherry liqueur and allspice flavors that turn livelier as the wine opens up. In a lush, inviting style, finishing with solid punch and velvety, harmonious tannins. Drinking range: 2022 - 2028 Rating: 92 Josh Raynolds, www.vinousmedia.com (Aug 2018)

Domaine la Bouïssière

Thierry and Gilles Faravel's Domaine la Bouïssière in Gigondas is exceptional in many ways, apart from the personality of Thierry himself, it is the site of the vineyard, high up under the 'Dentelles de Montmirail' which makes the defining difference.

In contrast to the vines being baked on the plains of stones at the foot of the hill, the Bouïssière vines benefit from cooling air at night falling from the high peaks, and the wines retain a freshness and subtle persistence which is very different to the sometimes bludgeoning broadness and alcoholic heat of the wines on the plain.

Gilles and Thierry Faravel employ non-interventionalist practices to make wines as naturally as possible, resulting in wines of immense concentration and depth, with true vibrancy and the capacity to age for ten to fifteen years.
