NUITS SAINT GEORGES

2016 Cuvée Ultra 1er Cru La Richemone Christophe Perrot-Minot

EN PRIMEUR

More mineral at first. Chalky, limestoney texture surrounds an intense, powerfully wrought fruit core. Black berries with good firm crunch. A blue fruit note too, then some more earthy, sous-bois elements. Great crunch of blackcurrant too. Fine line - more lurking power and potential. Super fine and balanced. Walks a perfect tight-rope of harmony between push and feel.L&S (Oct 2017)

A mix of black cherry, sandalwood, violet and sweet spice flavors is the hallmark of this perfumed and silky red. As seamless as a young Burgundy can be, with terrific harmony and an underlying mineral note on the super long finish. Best from 2023 through 2043. Drinking range: 2023 - 2043 Rating: 96 Bruce Sanderson, The Wine Spectator (Feb 2019)

(just four barrels made; no frost here): Bright, dark red with ruby highlights. Sexy aromas of dark cherry, briary forest berries, Oriental spices, hawthorn and black pepper. Penetrating, firmly built wine with lovely inner-mouth tension and a distinctly savory quality to its flavors of berries, stone and rare steak. A bit sweeter than the Beaux Monts but still quite classic and dry. My only question mark here is whether this wine has sufficient flesh to blossom in the cellar. Rating: 91-93 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Jan 2018)

(from vines first planted in 1902). A densely fruited, ripe and exuberantly fresh nose offers up notes of cassis, plum, dark raspberry and a variety of spice nuances. The impressively concentrated broad-shouldered flavors possess a plush yet reasonably defined mouthfeel before culminating in a driving, focused and very powerful finish that seems to go on and on. This is a big wine where the abundant dry extract presently largely hides the firm core of supporting tannins but make no mistake, this will need plenty of time to reach its apogee. At the same time, the sheer density of the sap will allow this to be enjoyed young if that’s your preference. Drinking range: 2031 - Rating: 92-94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2018)

The 2016 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru La Richemone Vieilles Vignes "Cuvée Ultra" has a mineral-driven bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit suffused with flinty, slate-like scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe tannin, a fine line of acidity, fresh from the start but maintaining impressive elegance and poise right to the finish. This has great potential and it should age well for a couple of decades. Drinking range: 2020 - 2038 Rating: 92-94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2017)

Deeper, spicier and darker aroma. Good depth to the palate. Quite a lot of matter here. Black pepper, good tension. The tannins have richness with some grip to the tannins. Depth, density. Straight finish. Drinking range: 2022 - Rating: 18.5 Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing (Nov 2017)

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
