VOSNE ROMANÉE

2016 Champs Perdrix Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

EN PRIMEUR

Big hit of clean fruit. More compacted, more mineral coated. But lovely sugared plum, not ripe, but beautifully 'a point'. This is serious, attractive and delicious. Just such incredible balance. Fine fruit intensity and gorgeous lift of juicy acidity. Sleek with super drive. The energy is exciting. No one will be sad to have this fine wine in their cellar.L&S (Oct 2017)

(Vosne-Romanée was Perrot-Minot's only commune that was "almost totally spared by frost" in 2016; the yield here was about 40 hectoliters per hectare): Dark red with ruby tones. More brooding and dark on the nose than the village Chambolle, offering aromas of cherry, black raspberry and bitter chocolate. Dense, ripe and silky-smooth in the mouth, but still with excellent acidity and floral, spicy lift to its black fruit flavors. Strong calcaire energy kicks in on the back end, giving the persistent finish an element of medicinal reserve and a rocky, saline complexity. Rating: 90-92 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Jan 2018)

Here the expressive nose is spicier still if perhaps not quite as elegant with its layered array of violet, rose petal, black cherry and exotic Asian-style tea. There is outstanding richness to the medium-bodied flavors that flash ample minerality on the lingering finish that displays an interesting hint of citrus. While this can’t quite match the Chambolle for overall quality, this too is a very fine villages level wine and worth checking out. Drinking range: 2023 - Rating: 89-91 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2018)

The 2016 Vosne Romanee Champs Perdrix Vieilles Vignes has a very attractive bouquet with bright crushed strawberry, redcurrant and raspberry scents, underneath which lies fine tension and delineation if not the puissance of the 2015. The palate is smooth and fleshy, with good body with ample red cherry and strawberry notes, leading to a satisfying weighty finish. Very fine. Drinking range: 2020 - 2030 Rating: 89-91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2017)

This is very juicy and fruity. It has plenty of energy. Lively acidity. Lots of juicy fruits. Red fruits. It’s a ‘light’ straight and lively Vosne with lots of zip and energy...saline finish... Rating: 16.5 Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing (Nov 2017)

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
