BONNES MARES

2017 Grand Cru Henri Boillot

EN PRIMEUR

Wow. This hits you with a hugely broad wave of lovely, full fruit. Dark plum and sweeter red strawberry flesh mix to create a bright and intense core of deliciousness. Punctuated with dots of super fresh acidity that keep this so alive and energetic. Pings around your mouth and finishes more full on with that impact of broad fruit once again. Top drawer Grand Cru from this dynamic estate where the reds in particular are shifting up a gear with Guillaume's increasing influence.L&S (Oct 2018)

(from Chambolle fruit). Here too the nose is quite restrained with its admirably pure aromas of red cherry, dark currant, spice and earth along with notes of violet and lavender. I very much like the sense of underlying tension to the succulent, indeed even juicy, medium weight plus flavors that exude a subtle salinity on the tautly muscular and firm finish that flashes just a hint of youthful austerity. This isn’t quite as complex as the Chambertin but it’s close and it may well close the gap over time as this is also very clearly structured for mid to even longer-term keeping. One of the finest reds in the Boillot cellar, the 2017 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru offers up lovely aromas of peonies, wild berries, spicy potpourri and espresso roast. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fine-boned and mineral, with a deep core of concentrated fruit, chalky structuring tannins and a long, sapid finish. Rating: 92-94 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2019)

The 2017 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru offers dark cherries, blackberry and light touches of blue fruit in what is a very similar bouquet to the domaine’s other Grand Crus. The palate is full-bodied with ripe tannins, perhaps showing a little more terroir expression than the other Grand Crus, with touches of white pepper and sage towards the structured finish. This is probably the best of Boillot’s Grand Crus. Drinking range: 2023 - 2040 Rating: 91-93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)

Henri Boillot complements his domaine wines with a small range of négociant wines of superb quality in very limited quantities. A few of the whites are offered here - an opportunity to buy some of Burgundy's rarest appellations from a top source.

STORAGE OPTIONS:

Wines bought en primeur are scheduled to arrive in the UK over the course of the next eighteen months. If you do not wish to take home delivery, you may wish to consider where you would like the wines shipped on arrival in the UK. Lea & Sandeman offers duty paid and in bond storage through a dedicated storage company called Elephant Storage. For more details on the terms and fees associated with storage please go to our Storage Homepage or contact our primeurs team for more information.

While helpful, we do not require a firm commitment on delivery destination to process your primeur order at this stage. Our team will be in contact with you when your wines arrive in the UK to confirm the necessary delivery details.
