This new arrival from Alain Mathias and his family is a great new addition to the L&S stable. The 2017 is fresh and bright and so distinctively Chablis. At this early stage there is a touch of that oyster-shell minerality, and a good note of young reggiano cheese. The fruit is good and supple with ripe honeydew and gentle fresh herb and a zippy finish on the limey side of citrus. This is classic, but classy and has a satisfying Chablis drive and long finish. The 2017 Chablis Villages offers up a pretty bouquet of citrus oil, white flowers and delicate hints of orange blossom, followed by a medium to full-bodied, elegantly glossy palate that's attractively fleshy while remaining pure, precise. This bottling is produced from vines in Lignorelles where the soils are comparatively rich in clay, making for a more textural style of wine.
