CHARMES CHAMBERTIN

2017 'du Dessus' Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

EN PRIMEUR

Hello! This is immediately so inviting, such charm reels you in to the beautifully set fruit at the core here. It is broad and expansive. Lovely ripeness, but still some pep to the red berries. It is just so inviting. Really no hard edges and yet no excess. Sleek and polished but not flashy in anyway. at the finish more minerality peeks out, the super fine grip builds. Highest parcel of Charmes right next to Chambertin and this is where that more mineral, more grippy edge comes from. Brilliant. Drinking range: 2022 - 2030L&S (Nov 2018)

* This is a pre-shipment/primeur offer. All orders are accepted under the TERMS of this offer which differ from the terms of the rest of the site.

Christophe Perrot-Minot has substantial holdings in both Charmes (0.91ha) and Mazoyères-Chambertin (0.74ha) but is one of the rare producers who prefers to make them separately. He uses 50% whole bunch vinification, though it would be hard to identify this characteristic by taste, and 50% new wood. Another very fine bouquet, delivering such precision and attention to detail, with a glowing red fruit that expands at the back of the palate. Perrot-Minot’s 2017 Charmes-Chambertin has the most impressive length of them all. Drink from 2027-2036. Tasted: April 2023. Drinking range: 2027 - 2036 Rating: **** Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Oct 2023)

The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has a tight-lipped bouquet that is missing a little fruit intensity compared to the domaine’s other cuvées. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, taut and linear. The precise, slightly austere finish feels more like a Mazis-Chambertin and could do with a little more flesh. Drinking range: 2021 - 2036 Rating: 91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2020)

Rich and layered with lots of subtlety as well as layers. Confident winemaking. Drinking range: 2022 - 2035 Rating: 17+ Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2019)

The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has an entrancing, pure wild strawberry and cranberry bouquet laced with allspice and orange pith. The oak here is nicely assimilated. The palate is very harmonious on the entry, with sorbet-like red fruit. Hints of salted licorice and Moroccan spices render the finish quite complex. A very fine Charmes-Chambertin that should age with style. Drinking range: 2023 - 2040 Rating: 92-94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)

It is perfumed on the nose. It has depth and intensity on the strike. Firm minerality underscores the red fruit. Not as rounded and full-bodied and you might expect, rather it is straighter and vigorous and more focused. A very good Charmes. Rating: 19.5 Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing (Dec 2018)

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
