2017 Cru Bourgeois Supérieur Margaux
50% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot. La Gurgue was hit quite badly by the frost in 2017. For the first three nights the estate successfully deployed candles only to run out and see all their good work come to nothing. How frustrating that must be. Only 3,000 cases will make it to market despite the impressive yields on the surviving fruit. The estate is already certified organic and is under biodynamic conversion. Perhaps that has contributed to the ripeness, fragrance and freshness of this extremely approachable Margaux. There is lots to enjoy here! Given the small volumes produced we will have to wait and see where this ends up in terms of pricing. Drinking range: 2022 - 2032 Rating: 89 L&S (Apr 2018)
