CHÂTEAU LA TOUR CARNET

2017 4ème Cru Classé Haut Médoc

Colour Red
Origin France, Bordeaux
Sub-district Haut Médoc
Classification 4ème Cru Classé

Deep crimson. Refined, restrained aroma of cedary cassis. Fresh and silky on the palate but pretty light overall. The tannins are just right for the overall balance with a gentle grip on the finish, that dusty/chalky quality at the very end. Drinking range: 2022 - 2028 Rating: 15.5 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Apr 2018)

The 2017 Château La Tour Carnet is another rock-solid wine in the lineup from the team of Bernard Magrez at Pape Clement. Loads of plum and blue fruits, leafy herbs, and earth all flow to a plump, medium to full-bodied red that has tons of sweet fruit, a broad, expansive texture, and sweet tannin. It's well worth seeking out and dishes out more pleasure than most in the vintage. Rating: 89-92 Jeb Dunnuck, www.jebdunnuck.com (Apr 2018)

Very tight and polished with pretty density and tannins. Medium to full body, good length and excellent balance. Remake of 2014. Rating: 92-93 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Apr 2018)

A clean, direct, racy wine, with light mineral and savory notes amid a core of cassis fruit. Shows good length and tension. Rating: 88-91 James Molesworth, The Wine Spectator (Apr 2018)

Château La Tour Carnet

Chateau La Tour Carnet, owned by Bernard Magrez is one of the oldest Bordeaux wine producers in the appellation. In fact, some parts of the building, specifically the round tower, date all the way back to the 11th Century. The fortress was inhabited by the English as early as the 12th Century. It was an important fort that was used by the military. Originally, it went under the name of Chateau de Saint-Laurent. The land eventually fell to French rule. After centuries of war, the ruined property passed through the hands of a succession of owners, before coming to Thibault de Carmaing in the 16th Century and eventually to Charles de Leutken. The Bordeaux wine estate remained with his descendents. During the 1855 classification, the estate was under the direction of Angélique Raymond. The current owner is Bernard Magrez, who is the proprietor of a number of other Bordeaux estates, most notably Pape Clément in Pessac-Léognan. He also owns Fombrauge in St. Emilon. Chateau La Tour Carnet is one of the top producers in Haut Medoc and lesser appellations area today.
