CHÂTEAU MALARTIC LAGRAVIÈRE

2017 Blanc Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan

Colour White
Origin France, Bordeaux
Village Pessac-Léognan
Classification Cru Classé

80% Sauvignon, 20% Sémillon with 50% new French oak. Really pure, concentrated citrus and grapefruit nose that wears the oak well. The fruit is really ripe and there's quite a bit of body but it isn't flabby or overtly tropical. Neither is it grassy and thin. There's just the right acid balance. This almost sparkles there's so much fizz and energy. Really lively stuff, bright and refreshing. An excellent showing in a good vintage for dry whites, especially those that are heavier on the Sauvignon. Drinking range: 2019 - 2025 Rating: 90-92 L&S (Apr 2018)

The 2017 Malartic-Lagravière Blanc has a clean, precise and mineral-driven bouquet with touches of smoke and flint hovering like errant school-kids in the background. The palate is very well balanced and full of energy. The acidity neatly counterbalances with saline apply fruit with great persistence on the finish, and touches of lemongrass that linger on the aftertaste. This is one of the best Pessac-Léognan whites that you will find in this vintage. Drinking range: 2021 - 2042 Rating: 92-94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (May 2018)

Powerful and intense, this has clear Sauvignon character without being grassy. There's excellent depth of expression and a bright, zippy character that leads you through the palate. High, bright aromatics and great persistency. Drinking range: 2019 - 2030 Rating: 92 Jane Anson, Decanter (Apr 2018)

The 2017 Château Malartic-Lagravière Blanc comes from deep gravelly soils in the Pessac-Léognan region and is 80% Sauvignon and 20% Sémillon brought up in 50% new French oak. It’s another terrific white from this vintage. Racy white grapefruit, citrus, and ample minerality all flow to a medium-bodied, exceedingly elegant, crisp, yet balanced white that’s going to put on weight with time in barrel and bottle. Rating: 90-92 Jeb Dunnuck, www.jebdunnuck.com (Apr 2018)

Château Malartic Lagravière

Château Malartic-Lagravière, originally Domaine de Lagravière, is a Bordeaux wine from the Pessac-Léognan appellation, ranked among the Premiers Crus for red and white wine in the Classification of Graves wine of 1953 and 1959. The winery and vineyards are located south of the city of Bordeaux, in the commune of Léognan. The Domaine de Lagravière was bought in 1803 by Pierre de Malartic whose uncle, Comte de Malartic through battles against the British in Canada and Mauritius brought fame to the name and the martime theme which is associated with this estate. The Malartic name was not applied to the estate until after 1850 however. The estate has belonged to the Bonnie family since 1997, with oenologists Michel Rolland and Athanase Fakorellis as consultants. From a property of 47 hectares (120 acres), the vineyard area consists of 41 hectares (100 acres) of the red grape varieties 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, with 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, and 6 hectares (15 acres) of the white grape varieties 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Sémillon.[3] The Grand vin, Château Malartic-Lagravière, is annually produced in 16,000 cases of the red wine and 2,500 cases of the dry white. There are also red and white second wines, Sillage de Malartic, and a rosé, Le Rosé de Malartic.
