2017 Bobal 'Ecologica' Bodegas Nodus

Grapes Bobal
Colour Red
Origin Spain, Valencia
ABV 13%

We couldn't quite believe the price when we tasted this delicious juicy red from southern Spain. Bobal is the grape, not widely known, but on this showing it deserves a much bigger audience. Plum, blackberry, dark cherry fruit, a touch sappy, nice grip and then a hint of the hedgerow. Drinking range: 2018 - 2020 L&S (Mar 2018)

*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles (or 9l equivalent) of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits, Sweet Wine or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.

A thorough process during the growing period of the grapes is maintained to determine the optimum time to start the harvesting. Grape selection, controlled fermentation at low temperatures along with a long maceration process in stainless steel tanks. This process achieves that Chaval Tinto denotes the Bobal characteristic aroma of fruits.Winemaker's notes(Nov 2018)

Attractive wild raspberries and meadow flowers lead to a palate that has a super juicy, lithe and vibrant, blackcurrant and dark-plum core. Smooth finish. Drink or hold. Rating: 91 James Suckling, 2019)

Light, brilliant red. Musky red berries and herbs on the nose and palate, along with suggestions of earth and dried flowers. Taut and sharply focused, with a late touch of gaminess appearing on the gently tannic, modestly persistent finish. Drinking range: 2019 - 2021 Rating: 87-87 Josh Raynolds, 2019)

This light, crisp red shows a mix of fruity and savory flavors, offering candied cherry, dried herb, bitter licorice and baking spice notes. Supple, with light tannins and lively acidity. Bobal. Drink now. 'Daily Pick', April 2018.The Wine Spectator, 2018)

Bodegas Nodus

Adolfo De Las Heras Marín, acquired one of the most ecologically important wine making estates in Valencia in 1985.

The El Renegado estate was 540 hectares of forest and vineyards, of which 80% was planted with 40 year old Bobal vines. Adolfo pioneered the introduction of other grapes such as merlot and cabernet.

It was Adolfo’s son also called Adolfo who upon taking over the winery in the late nineties, revolutionised the quality of production, importing additional varieties such as syrah, chardonnay, cabernet franc and updating the Barrel cellar and bottling line, as well as transforming the old Farmstead into a beautiful Hotel.

From the late nineties until 2006, Adolfo De Las Heras meticulously and expertly shaped the estate and the winery to his vision: The use of modern methods and producing limited numbers of the top quality wines.

Thus was born Nodus, one of the most significant estates of the D.O.
