GEVREY CHAMBERTIN

2017 1er Cru Corbeaux Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py

EN PRIMEUR

This vineyard is right next to Mazis Chambertin. Loïc has two parcels here, with vines planted up to 80 years ago. After the electric Fonteny, this is darker and denser. A sinewy, more old-school feel, Loaded with darker, more black fruit and a granular grip. There is a lively acidity too and no fat at all. Good drive, good focus, but this is just a tad firmer and more brooding than the other wines here. Finishes with a beautiful, defined and fresh feel. Uplifting fruit, but impressive. Drinking range: 2023 - 2030L&S (Nov 2018)

* This is a pre-shipment/primeur offer. All orders are accepted under the TERMS of this offer which differ from the terms of the rest of the site.

(from a .08 ha parcel; vinified with ~60% whole cluster). A more deeply pitched nose features notes of leather, forest floor, damp leaves and an amalgam of cassis and dark cherry scents. There is an evident earthiness to the rich, mouth coating and velvet-textured flavors that retain excellent focus and power on the sneaky long finish. This is a classically styled Corbeaux with plenty of sauvage character. Drinking range: 2032 - Rating: 91-93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2019)

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux offers up lovely aromas of briary, plummy fruit that mingle with notes of dark chocolate and grilled game. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with a rounded, charming profile that belies its depth and concentration. This should have the broadest drinking window of any premier cru in the Dugat-Py cellar this year. Rating: 92-94 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2019)

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Corbeaux 1er Cru comes from two parcels just 60-metres from Mazis-Chambertin, matures entirely in new oak with two-thirds whole bunches. It has a very seductive bouquet with crème de cassis, blueberry and crushed violet aromas that are extremely pure, perhaps with a touch of more glycerine than other cuvées from Dugat-Py. The palate is rich and opulent on the entry but the acidity keeps everything in check. There is a lot of weight here, grippy and sweet, almost heady towards the finish, yet the freshness remains intact. Give it a decade if you can, in bottle. Drinking range: 2025 - 2040 Rating: 91-93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)

Strong toasty vanilla and spice sweetness here with lovely concentration of red fruit emerging on the nose. Extremely supple texture and juicy but perhaps not as persistent as some. There’s a note of stemmy freshness to balance the fruit ripeness. Deep and chewy on the finish. More impact than length. Drinking range: 2024 - 2035 Rating: 16.5+ Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2018)

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
