GEVREY CHAMBERTIN

2017 1er Cru Petite Chapelle Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py

EN PRIMEUR

The family have three parcels in Petite Chapelle. One is 80 years old the others are 60 & 50 year old plots. On the nose this makes you sit up and pay attention straight away. This has class and a grandeur to it. An immediately impressive edifice of beautiful, firm fruit. Plums and firmer red apple with bite and crunch. So expressive and lovely energetic concentration. This is still quite tightly furled but remains just so aromatic, so well defined and with unbelievable energy. Spice and harmony are revealed as it stays in the mouth. Really pure, and flagrantly joyous. Drinking range: 2022 - 2029L&S (Nov 2018)

* This is a pre-shipment/primeur offer. All orders are accepted under the TERMS of this offer which differ from the terms of the rest of the site.

(from a .32 ha parcel; vinified with 60% whole cluster). As is virtually always the case and, as one would expect, this is aromatically much more elegant with its perfumed combination of lavender, red cherry, spice and Asian-style tea. The gorgeously textured and strikingly delineated medium-bodied flavors exude a fine bead of minerality on the caressing yet powerful finish that goes on and on. This is a knockout. Drinking range: 2035 - Rating: 92-94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2019)

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle wafts from the glass with a beautiful bouquet of wild berries, dried flowers, blood orange, rich soil and rose petal. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and layered, simultaneously expansive but beautifully delineated. It's a cuvée that has really gained in energy since the transition to biodynamic farming. Rating: 92-94 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2019)

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Petite Chapelle 1er Cru comes from three parcels, matures in 70% new oak and is made with around 40% whole bunch fruit. It has a concentrated bouquet with layers of macerated red fruit, candied orange peel and pressed flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, slightly confit at the entry, then more strict and linear towards the finish with a touch of white pepper on the aftertaste. Drinking range: 2022 - 2032 Rating: 89-91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)

Smells invitingly of small wild black berries. Perhaps elderberries? But quite restrained on the nose. That same dark wild character on the palate with a real sour-fresh tang. Chewy texture with no hard edges. That health and ripeness is all there, everything primary but in place. Mouth-watering freshness and long finish. Lovely, concentrated fruit. Drinking range: 2024 - 2035 Rating: 17 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2018)

Another impressive premier cru bottling from Loïc Dugat-Py, this hails from three parcels on the slope close to Griotte-Chambertin. It's slightly closed at the moment, but with the balance and focus to age superbly in bottle. This has a hint of reduction, pithy, chalky minerality and the fruit intensity that's a feature of the domaine's wines. Drinking range: 2026 - 2032 Rating: 95 Tim Atkin MW - Decanter (Nov 2018)

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
