GEVREY CHAMBERTIN

2017 Coeur de Roy Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py

EN PRIMEUR

75 year old vines are the average here. This has more breadth and density than the Vieilles Vignes. A really polished deep feel. Incredible intensity, but with no tightness. There is a joyous and open expression. Excellent black and velvety fruit pulp core, dotted with mulched red flesh and the odd stripe of darker berries in the middle. Pert strawberry and some softer red fruits too make up the svelte weight. There is super energy too and a saline mineral freshness that adds further bounce. A great freshness to this Pinot, so impressive. Drinking range: 2022 - 2029L&S (Nov 2018)

* This is a pre-shipment/primeur offer. All orders are accepted under the TERMS of this offer which differ from the terms of the rest of the site.

(from vines of 50 to 100+ years of age situated in Epointures, Combe du Dessus, Jouise, and Les Marchais; vinified with 50% of the stems). Once again the aromatic expression is filled with floral nuances that add a touch of elegance to the cool and pure essence of red currant, earth and herbal tea scents. There is excellent intensity to the sleek and mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that possess even better depth and persistence. As is the case with several wines in the range, this isn’t as dense as it usually is but that doesn’t mean that it still won’t require extended bottle age to arrive at its peak. Drinking range: 2029 - Rating: 89-92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2019)

Matured in two-thirds new oak, the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin "Cuvée Coeur du Roy" has a very pure black cherry and boysenberry scented bouquet. The oak is neatly integrated and the 50% whole bunches impart a subtle undergrowth scent. The palate is packed full of sucrosity on the entry, slightly confit in style with macerated small black cherries, blueberry and a dash of white pepper towards the spicy finish. This will deserve five or six years in bottle, but there is very good potential here. Drinking range: 2023 - 2040 Rating: 90-92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)

Prettier and more red-fruited on the nose than Les Evocelles. Supple and silky and beautifully fresh, the tannins more supple than on Les Evocelles. Again, the fruit is really ripe here but with no loss of freshness. There’s an honesty and integrity, without artifice. Needs time. Drinking range: 2024 - 2032 Rating: 17 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2018)

Three parcels, all of them planted with the old-vine massal selections that are an important feature of the Dugat-Py holdings, make up this superb village red. It's focussed, fragrant and refined, with subtle aromatic spices from 50% whole bunches, glossy tannins and a fresh, mineral-edged finish. Drinking range: 2024 - 2030 Rating: 93 Tim Atkin MW - Decanter (Nov 2018)

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
