LE CHAMBERTIN

2017 Grand Cru Henri Boillot

EN PRIMEUR

Delicious. Richly weighted. Full and yet so clean and lifted. This flies on a higher plain despite the great weight to the fruit mass. Lovely peppy juice. black and sweet middle - some greener, almost herbal notes too, a crisper leafy edge that adds a crunch and a delicious succulence. Complex and nuanced. This has so much to give. A super option for the cellar. L&S (Oct 2018)

(near the very top of the vineyard and atypically, the rows are planted North-South). A spicy if decidedly inexpressive, pure and cool nose blends highly complex aromas of cassis, violet, lavender, earth and game. There is an overt muscularity and obvious power to the big-bodied and concentrated flavors that terminate in an austere, palate staining and wonderfully persistent finish that is very clearly structured for mid-term plus cellaring. In a word, terrific. Drinking range: 2034 - Rating: 96 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Apr 2019)

There are two barrels of the 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru, a wine that's more focused and tensile than the Clos de Bèze, offering up aromas of sweet cassis, red berries, baking chocolate, soil and espresso, framed by a touch of cedary new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, bright and precise, with a pretty core of fruit and a mineral finish. Rating: 91-93 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2019)

The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru is much more reticent on the nose than Boillot’s other Grand Crus, to the extent that it is difficult coaxing much fruit from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with toasty tannin, quite sweet on the entry with candied orange peel, hints of brown sugar and pain d’épices towards the finish that does possess an impressively long aftertaste. Drinking range: 2023 - 2040 Rating: 90-92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)

Henri Boillot complements his domaine wines with a small range of négociant wines of superb quality in very limited quantities. A few of the whites are offered here - an opportunity to buy some of Burgundy's rarest appellations from a top source.

STORAGE OPTIONS:

Wines bought en primeur are scheduled to arrive in the UK over the course of the next eighteen months. If you do not wish to take home delivery, you may wish to consider where you would like the wines shipped on arrival in the UK. Lea & Sandeman offers duty paid and in bond storage through a dedicated storage company called Elephant Storage. For more details on the terms and fees associated with storage please go to our Storage Homepage or contact our primeurs team for more information.

While helpful, we do not require a firm commitment on delivery destination to process your primeur order at this stage. Our team will be in contact with you when your wines arrive in the UK to confirm the necessary delivery details.
