2018 Cru Bourgeois Haut Médoc

Grapes Merlot, Cab Sauv, Cab Franc
Colour Red
Origin France, Bordeaux
Sub-district Haut Médoc
Classification Cru Bourgeois
ABV 13.5%

The depth of blackcurrant and blueberry fruit here is impressive. It has a nice cool feel and good gloss too. It's not shy though. There's are a lot of Haut Médoc tannin on show but they are fine and the fruit can cope. We are really enjoying the 2010 from this estate at the moment and this will be an excellent follow up once it's had some time in the cellar. Drinking range: 2025 - 2035 L&S (Apr 2019)

The 2018 Fourcas Dupré displays good intensity on a nose of blackberry, briary and light tobacco notes, just a faint sea spray scent emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, quite saline in the mouth and struck through with good acidity. Red fruit begins to take over toward the finish, where clove and white pepper linger. Enjoy this well-crafted Listrac over the next 12–16 years. Drinking range: 2023 - 2038 Rating: 89 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Mar 2021)

Fresh currants and berries on the nose with damp soil and some forest-floor character. It’s medium-bodied with soft, sleek tannins. Juicy and fresh. Drinking range: 2022 - Rating: 90 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Feb 2021)

Inky core, purple rim. Sweetly fragrant cassis on the nose but less immediate fruit on the palate. In fact it’s rather severe in its tannin structure. Tannins are fine-boned but there’s not a huge amount of flesh in the middle. Dry but actually quite elegant. Drinking range: 2023 - 2028 Rating: 16 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Apr 2019)

Château Fourcas Dupré

A 46ha estate in Listrac, the highest point in the Medoc, with a mix of well drained soils, 80% Pyrenean gravels, 20% clay-limestone. Originally called Château Roulet, Jean Antoine Baptiste Dupré renamed the estate in 1843.

The vineyards are planted with 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Vinification is classical, with four weeks in vats, barrels and amphora, after which the wine is aged 14 fourteen months in french oak barrels, of which 25% are new each year. The consultant oenologist is Eric Boissenot.
