Grapes Merlot, Cab Franc
Colour Red
Origin France, Bordeaux
Sub-district Saint Emilion & Satellites

Sweet dark fruit on the nose. Good weight and body on the palate - the tannin and lively acidity adds the frame work. The dark fruit is joined by a hint of salinity. Good drive and tension throughout - lovely wine. Drinking range: 2022 - 2032 L&S (Apr 2019)

A medium-bodied red with a solid core of fruit and chewy tannins that are polished and refined. Savory and spicy finish. It’s all here, in a nice way. From organically grown grapes. Try after 2023. Rating: 92 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Feb 2021)

I loved the 2018 La Mauriane, which should surpass both the 2015 and 2017 (I wasn’t able to taste the 2016). Coming from an organically farmed vineyard and a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, aging in 60% new French oak, it has an awesome bouquet of black raspberries, subtle cassis, spice, and flowers. Incredibly elegant, full-bodied, with fine tannins and excellent length, it’s a hidden gem well worth seeking out. Rating: 92-94 Jeb Dunnuck, www.jebdunnuck.com (May 2019)

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 La Mauriane displays quite a lot of cedar at this stage with a core of baked cranberries, blackberry tart and plum preserves plus hints of chocolate box and menthol. Full-bodied with a firm line of grainy tannins and loads of red and black fruit preserves layers, it has a spark of dried herbs freshness on the finish. Rating: 88-90 Lisa Perrotti-Brown, RobertParker.com (Apr 2019)

La Mauriane

La Mauriane is a small vineyard within Château Rigaud, a Puisseguin-St-Emilion property owned by Pierre Taïx, who owns a few other properties in Puisseguin and the neighbouring Côtes de Castillon. La Mauriane is a micro-cuvée, made by Pierre, who is a university lecturer (economics) in his other life. One of the three parcels that make this extraordinary wine consists of eighty year old vines planted by his grandfather. The vineyard here is farmed organically. 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
