The 2018 Le Petit Ducru de Ducru-Beaucaillou, to give it its full name, was still "Lalande-Borie" when I tasted it from barrel. Aged for 12 months in 30% new oak, it has a pretty bouquet, less precocious than I remarked back then, with brambly black fruit, crushed rock and a light wilted iris scent. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, the oak now nicely entwined, whereas before I thought that it might take 3–4 years to fully integrate. There is ample ripeness, though this remains classic in style, possessing fine delineation and just the right amount of sapidity to urge you back for another sip. Drinking range: 2023 - 2038 Rating: 90 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Mar 2021)

The 2018 Lalande-Borie is aged for 12 months in 30% new oak with racking ever two or three months. Deep garnet in colour, this has a more opaque bouquet than the Fourcas-Borie with precocious dark cherries and boysenberry notes. There is purity in situ, although it will require some time before the oak is completely subsumed. The palate is ripe and grippy on the entry, a full-bodied and quite muscular Lalande-Borie. It feels heady towards the finish with a fine line of acidity (pH 3.77). It is a Saint-Julien that packs a punch, like many in this vintage, the subtlety is not a concept it is familiar with unlike say, the 2017. Give this four to five years in bottle. Drinking range: 2023 - 2040 Rating: 89-91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Nov 2019)

A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Château Lalande-Borie knocks it out of the park in the vintage and has a brilliant, full-bodied style as well as sexy notes of cassis, blueberries, violets, and spice box. With terrific ripeness, notable purity, and a balanced, layered texture, it’s going to drink nicely right out of the gate yet keep for two decades. It appears to be the finest vintage of this cuvée I’ve tasted. Rating: 91-94 Jeb Dunnuck, www.jebdunnuck.com (May 2019)
