Darker nose more brood here having just tasted the Charmes. More masculine. Fruit is ripe and intense, but more on the black side of things. Lovely and spicy. Right next to Charmes, but totally different. Fine but firmer tannins. Great lift and drive. Yes. Power for the future.. clean and clear mineral undercurrent which brings it all together neatly at the finish. Sophisticated. L&S (Nov 2019)

The 2018 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru lives up to its superb showing from barrel, unwinding in the glass with aromas of blackberries, wild plums, rose petals, spices and loamy soil. Full-bodied, deep and layered, it's elegantly muscular, with a concentrated core of fruit, lively acids and a broad framing of rich, powdery tannins. While this is built for the long haul, it's much less forbiddingly structured than was once the case for this cuvée. Drinking range: 2028 - 2065 Rating: 96+ William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2021)

(from a .25 ha parcel and vinified with ~80% stems). There has just enough reduction to shave the top notes from the nose where hints of earth and dark berries can still be discerned. Otherwise there is terrific punch, detail and minerality to the tautly muscular, vibrant and mineral-driven big-bodied flavors that are supported by very firm tannins on the ever-so-mildly austere and gorgeously persistent finale. As is often the case with this wine, it’s both restrained and compact at present but everything is in place such that it should age beautifully. In a word, excellent. Drinking range: 2038 - Rating: 93-95 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2020)

The 2018 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru is more brooding and reserved than the exuberant Charmes, wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis, blackberries, rich soil tones, juniper and rose petals. On the palate, it's full-bodied, deep and powerful, with fine structuring tannins, terrific depth at the core and impressively succulent enlivening acidity in this warm vintage. This was vinified with 80% whole cluster and matured in 75% new oak. Rating: 95-97 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2020)
