RULLY

2018 1er Cru La Pucelle Domaine Paul et Marie Jacqueson

EN PRIMEUR

Bottled the day before we tasted, so showing a little tight, but there's a phenolic density, a firmness full of bright flavoury freshness. The Premiers Crus get 20% new wood, but the wood influence is nearly unnoticeable, despite Marie saying that these barrels are given a little more toast that those used on the lesser wines. Give it six months, and it will drink well over the following three or four years. Drinking range: 2020 - 2024L&S (Nov 2019)

* This is a pre-shipment/primeur offer. All orders are accepted under the TERMS of this offer which differ from the terms of the rest of the site.

Light and correct but just a little flat. Solid, earthbound effort. Drinking range: 2023 - 2029 Rating: 16 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2020)

The 2018 Rully La Pucelle 1er Cru has a well defined nose with crushed granite and flint infusing the red apple and subtle beeswax scents. The palate is well balanced with good weight, more grip and salinity compared to the Rully Village, with a tang of marmalade enlivening the finish. There is a bit of chutzpah about this Rully and there is nothing wrong with that. Excellent. Drinking range: 2021 - 2032 Rating: 91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2020)

Rully is close to the Cote de Beaune and the best wines are similar in style but usually much cheaper. This shows lovely, freshness, persistence and weight, with a leesy, floral, beeswax texture, understated wood and the acidity of a good Puligny-Montrachet. Drinking range: 2021 - 2026 Rating: 93 Tim Atkin MW - Decanter (Dec 2019)

The domaine was founded in 1946 by Henri Jacqueson and passed to his son Paul. Marie joined her father in 2006 and since 2015 she and her brother Pierre run the estate, now known simply as P&M Jacqueson. The domaine consists of 18 hectares of vines, mostly in Rully, but also 5 in Mercurey and some in Bouzeron. The team also tend vines owned by their neighbours and make some beautiful wines from other peoples' fruit that they themselves have worked all year.

Traditional methods meticulously applied inspire everything they do: the grapes are harvested by hand and vinified in classical fashion, before an élevage in barrel (up to 25% new wood for the reds, just 20% for the 1er Cru Whites). The domaine has become adept at a sophisticated use of barrels, the élevage here is key to the quality they consistently achieve.

STORAGE OPTIONS:

Wines bought en primeur are scheduled to arrive in the UK over the course of the next eighteen months. If you do not wish to take home delivery, you may wish to consider where you would like the wines shipped on arrival in the UK. Lea & Sandeman offers duty paid and in bond storage through a dedicated storage company called Elephant Storage. For more details on the terms and fees associated with storage please go to our Storage Homepage or contact our primeurs team for more information.

While helpful, we do not require a firm commitment on delivery destination to process your primeur order at this stage. Our team will be in contact with you when your wines arrive in the UK to confirm the necessary delivery details.
