Domaine Jeanne Gaillard
Jeanne is one of the daughters of celebrated Vigneron - Pierre Gaillard, and she has established her own domaine in the northern Rhone, first in Vins de Pays (now designated IGP - Indication Géographique Protegée), and then in AOC Saint Joseph.
The IGP Syrah comes from 10 hectares of vines planted on sandy soils in Marzas and Malleval. Named after the Frech Folklore answer to Robin Hood 'Louis Mandrin'. her aim is to make a lighter style than the big name villages - something approachable and instantly quaffable. And so the grapes are carefully sorted, entirely destemmed, and, after a cold maceration, are fermented at controlled temperatures kept to 25C max. The malolactic and six months of élevage then takes place in a mixture of barrel and tank.
