CHAMBOLLE MUSIGNY

2019 Le Charme des Fuées Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

EN PRIMEUR

Chambolle in the old-rose style, deep and rich yet so incredibly fine - hedonistic and intellectually stimulating at the same time - really pretty stunning. Drinking range: 2023 - 2033L&S (Oct 2020)

* This is a pre-shipment/primeur offer. All orders are accepted under the TERMS of this offer which differ from the terms of the rest of the site.

(from a blend of 40% Les Charmes and 60% Les Fuées). A completely different nose is brooding and somber and only reluctantly offers up its aromas of blue pinot fruit that is liberally laced with spice and floral nuances, especially violet and rose petal. The strikingly vibrant and intense middle weight flavors are not super-dense, but they are silky, tension-filled and precise while displaying outstanding persistence on the balanced finale. I very much like the sophisticated mouthfeel and this should be really lovely in time. Drinking range: 2029 - Rating: 91-93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2021)

A blend of premiers crus Charmes and Fuées, Perrot-Minot's new 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Charmes de Fuées is showing beautifully, bursting with scents of cherries, raspberries and plums, complemented by hints of rose petal, orange rind and espresso roast. Medium to full-bodied, perfumed and fleshy, it's layered and lively, framed by powdery tannins. Rating: 92-94 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2021)

The name of the cuvée should tell you which two vineyards are blended here. There is not enough fruit to make each separately. Rich dense purple, a little bit of farmyard to the nose, certainly softer and rounder after the racy mineral Morey. Sweet ripe strawberry with a little fresher raspberry, weighty, generous, appealing but less classy than most of Christophe Perrot-Minot’s wines. Tasted: November 2020 3/5 stars Rating: 91-94 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Jan 2021)

A blend of both premiers crus (Les Charmes and Les Fuées), which have been bottled separately in the past). 1.5 barrels. Cask sample. Sumptuous nose and then real bite on the end. Quite sweet on the start and then very lively. Not yet haunting but it may get there. Very clean but needs a bit more depth and age. Drinking range: 2027 - 2045 Rating: 17 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2020)

The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes et les Fuées 1er Cru, as the name suggests, is a blend of 60% fruit from Fuées and 40% from Les Charmes since Christophe had insufficient fruit to bottle them separately. There is good intensity on the nose with blackberry, boysenberry, a touch of Worcester sauce leading a subtle "tang". The palate is very harmonious with svelte tannins, a fine bead of acidity and a very elegant finish that lingers in the mouth. Excellent. Drinking range: 2023 - 2043 Rating: 92-94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2020)

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
