From the off this unleashes a charm offensive, with lots going on. Delicious and vibrant aromatics waft from the glass. There is good weight and impact on the pretty nose. Following to the palate where sweet damson and black raspberry flesh intertwine on a soft bed of round velvety tannins. This has good drive and a caressing feel. The fruit here clearly got nicely ripe - but this stops short of being rich. Just a real pleasure to taste and neatly layered. It finishes with a good line of juiciness that asks you back for more.

Ben Sichel has been transforming Angludet in recent years and they now operate completely Bio-dynamically in the vineyards. He's changed the élevage considerably too. The 2019 seems to be a great new marker for this Margaux stalwart. Recommended for the cellar.

Merlot 43%, Cabernet Sauvignon 45% & Petit Verdot 12%. Half of this is aged in Oak (a third new) and the other half is aged in amphora. Harvest started with the Merlot on the 17th of September and ended with the Cabernet one month later on the 17th of October.

Sweet damson and red cherry fruit, notable creaminess on the attack, with light grilled cedar notes. Not the most intense Margaux in 2019, but easily one of the more supple, inviting and easy to love. Clear Margaux signature with delicate violet flowers on the aromatics. Definitely one to look out for from the Sichel family. Drinking range: 2023 - 2036 Rating: 91 Jane Anson, Decanter (Jun 2020)

The 2019 d'Angludet has a fine bouquet, well-defined with tobacco and pencil box aromas infusing the black fruit, taut and displaying beautifully integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, composed and harmonious, maybe missing a little grip, but it sashays along with style. Delicious Margaux. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Drinking range: 2024 - 2040 Rating: 91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Feb 2023)

A wine that has taken on a more serious side over ageing. Still ripe and supple, and now in bottle offers a brilliance slice of polished but nuanced Margaux, with damson, raspberry and blueberry fruits set against raspberry leaf and violet floral character, and a more gourmet edge of bitter chocolate and brioche. Great stuff from Benjamin Sichel, 6th generation of the family in Bordeaux, and an upscore from En Primeur (which leaves me wondering if the 50% amphoras emphasised an austerity in the early months of the wine). 30% new oak. In biodynamic conversion. Drinking range: 2024 - 2036 Rating: 93 Jane Anson, Decanter (Feb 2022)

Château Angludet

The wine estate of Château Angludet belongs to the Sichel family, wine merchants in Bordeaux for six generations. Situated in the Médoc on gravel deposits from the Garonne, the estate produces excellent wines under the Margaux appellation, which are often put on a par with a Grands Crus Classés in terms of quality.
