CHÂTEAU CAMBON LA PELOUSE

2019 Cru Bourgeois Supérieur Haut Médoc

Colour Red
Origin France, Bordeaux
Sub-district Haut Médoc
Classification Cru Bourgeois Supérieur
ABV 13.5%

The 2019 Cambon La Pelouse has a vivacious bouquet with bright brambly red fruit laced with cedar and graphite, the latter lending it a Pauillac-like personality. The palate is medium-bodied with a pastille-like entry, fleshier than some other Haut-Médoc wines though I need a little more persistency on the finish to warrant a higher score. Drinking range: 2024 - 2040 Rating: 90-92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jun 2020)

The 2019 Cambon La Pelouse is a powerful, burly Haut-Médoc. Black cherry, iron, tar, licorice, game, incense and tobacco all add to an impression of gravitas. There's real depth here, along with plenty of character. Drinking range: 2025 - 2039 Rating: 92 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Feb 2022)

The 2019 Cambon La Pelouse has a delineated bouquet of graphite/pencil box aromas and ample black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy blackberry and raspberry fruit, fine definition and good substance on the finish. This should age with style. Drinking range: 2024 - 2040 Rating: 91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Feb 2022)

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Cambon la Pelouse is scented of warm redcurrants, black cherries and cassis with hints of red roses, forest floor and bouquet garni. The medium-bodied palate delivers a good amount of straightforward red and black berry flavors, supported by chewy tannins and a lively backbone, finishing herbal. Rating: 86-88 Lisa Perrotti-Brown, RobertParker.com (Jun 2020)

Château Cambon la Pelouse

One of the longest-standing producers with exports to England dating back to the end of the 17th Century, the 38 hectare Château Cambon La Pelouse contributed substantially in the past to building the reputation in France and abroad of Médoc wines. The 35 hectare estate is on the outskirts of Macau and counts the Margaux estates of Giscours and Cantemerle as neighbours. With an average annual production of 250,000 bottles, the estate is planted 52% Merlot, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot to a vine density of 7,000 vines per hectare with an average age of 30 years for the vines. The terroir is composed of sandy gravels which provides effective drainage. This ensures a consistent production of elegant medium-bodied wines which have been praised by Robert Parker as “one of my favorite estates from the southern part of the Medoc”.
