2019 'en Orveaux' Grand Cru Domaine Faiveley

EN PRIMEUR

A clear step into another class with the Grand Cru. Richly voluminous, beautifully relaxed but very dry texture, lots of interest, a little warm spiciness, and it stays together and compact and nicely long. Drinking range: 2030 - 2045L&S (Nov 2020)

This red is silky, complex and very expressive today. Delivers black cherry, blackberry, sandalwood, spicy oak and mineral flavors, while the well-integrated structure lends support. This has a discreet oak element, which lingers with vanilla and toast notes. Very harmonious and long. Best from 2026 through 2047 Drinking range: 2026 - 2047 Rating: 97 Bruce Sanderson, The Wine Spectator (Feb 2022)

An overtly floral and exceptionally pretty nose reflects notes of red currant, dark raspberry and plenty of spice elements, especially star anise. There is excellent intensity to the refined and beautifully well-detailed medium weight flavors that flash evident minerality on the moderately austere and compact but lengthy finish. This is at once classy and quite stylish and like many of the wines in the range, a wine that should age effortlessly. Drinking range: 2034 - Rating: 92-95 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2021)

The 2019 Echézeaux En Orveaux Grand Cru has turned out nicely, offering up aromas of plums and berries, complemented by suggestions of orange peel, sweet soil tones, peonies and spices. Medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, it's enveloping but vibrant, with lively acids and a precise finish. Rating: 92-94 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2021)

30% whole bunch. One of the lighter colours, but still a full, attractive purple. White marl, without clay or stones. But there is a sweetness of fruit and a tension holding it in place. Perhaps just a mite less precision, less daintiness than some years. Tasted: November 2020 **** Rating: 93 - 96 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Jan 2021)

Barrel sample. Quite rich and sweet on the nose and then everything is in balance on the palate. This is really quite exciting! Lovely balance and charm. Drinking range: 2025 - 2043 Rating: 17+ Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2020)

The 2019 Echézeaux En Orveaux Grand Cru is one of the few cuvées to includes 25% whole bunch. It has a light, airy bouquet of dark berry fruit, incense and a touch of lavender. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins on the entry, the stem addition lending quite a strong black pepper note toward the finish, which just feels a little abrupt. Drinking range: 2024 - 2039 Rating: 91-93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2020)

The Faiveley family are the largest vineyard owners in Burgundy, owning around 120ha, spread across the Côtes de Nuits, Beaune and Chalonnaise and encompassing everything from generic Bourgogne up to the grandest of Grand Crus. Their holdings supply the grapes for 5 out of every 6 bottles made by Faiveley, the balance being bought in from carefully selected contract growers.

For more details on the terms and fees associated with storage please go to our Storage Homepage or contact our primeurs team for more information.

While helpful, we do not require a firm commitment on delivery destination to process your primeur order at this stage. Our team will be in contact with you when your wines arrive in the UK to confirm the necessary delivery details.
