GEVREY CHAMBERTIN

2019 Coeur de Roy Domaine Dugat-Py

EN PRIMEUR

10 barrels. Huge fresh fruit nose, blackberry and cassis, totally fresh and pure, mouth filling. Big wine but still a Burgundian balance, in case you were worrying. Concentrated and goes on and on. Lots of peps and energy. Drinking range: 2030 - 2045L&S (Oct 2020)

* This is a pre-shipment/primeur offer. All orders are accepted under the TERMS of this offer which differ from the terms of the rest of the site.

(from vines of 50 to 100+ years of age situated in Epointures, Combe du Dessus, Jouise, and Les Marchais; vinified with 50% stems). This is actually aromatically similar to the old vines Gevrey cuvée though with even better fruit density. There is lovely freshness to the delicious, vibrant and well-detailed flavors that exude evident minerality on the complex, lingering and balanced finale. The mid-palate is really quite fine, yet the finish is overtly robust. An impressive villages. Drinking range: 2025 - Rating: 91 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2022)

Reduction pushes the fruit to the background today though there is lovely freshness to the delicious, vibrant and well-detailed flavors that exude evident minerality on the complex, lingering and balanced finale. The supporting tannins are really quite fine and overall, and somewhat surprisingly, the palate impression is almost delicate. Drinking range: 2025 - Rating: 89-92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2021)

Always the richest and most muscular of Dugat-Py's communal bottlings, the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur du Roy unwinds in the glass with aromas of raspberries, plums, forest floor, spices and grilled meats. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and layered, with a broad-shouldered chassis of fine, powdery tannins and lively acids, it's long and penetrating. As usual, it derives from vines between 50 and 109 years of age located in the lieux-dits Epointures, Combe du Dessus, Jouise and Les Marchais, and it was vinified with 60% whole cluster and raised in 50% new oak. Having visited the domaine's vines before harvest, I can attest that its deep, saturated hue comes from an abundance of tiny, shot berries with a high skins-to-juice ratio, rather than to any desire to push extraction in the winery. Rating: 91-93 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2021)

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin "Cuvée Coeur de Roy," blended with 40% whole bunch, has an intense bouquet of small dark cherries mixed with raspberry and black currant pastille scents; there is fine delineation here. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannins, well-judged acidity and a stocky and quite grippy, chalky-textured finish. Give this 18–24 months once in bottle to smooth its edges. Drinking range: 2023 - 2033 Rating: 88-90 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2020)

Very heady indeed – a liqueur on the nose! Incredibly rich! Yet with sufficient life and acidity. Amazing punch. Real excitement – concentration but not too much tannin. Drinking range: 2027 - 2040 Rating: 17 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2020)

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.
