GEVREY CHAMBERTIN

2019 Justice des Seuvrées Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

EN PRIMEUR

50 year-old vines in La Justice, which says Christophe, bring the black fruit, blood and tannin, while the rest is from Seuvrées, on the border of Morey, which has a more crunchy red fruit. The resulting wine is ripe, full of dark fruit expression, but with lift and brightness too. Firm, positive finish. Drinking range: 2024 - 2034L&S (Oct 2020)

(from La Justice and Les Seuvrées). Once again there is enough reduction to mask the nuances of the underlying fruit. Otherwise there is very good freshness and verve to the equally racy and intense flavors that possess a lovely tension that carries over to the linear, refined and chiseled finish that is shaped by relatively fine-grained tannins. This is a very fine Gevrey villages that should also be approachable young. Drinking range: 2026 - Rating: 89-92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2021)

A blend of La Justice and Les Seuvrées, the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin mingles notions of cherries and berries with rich soil tones and hints of spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with tangy acids and a rich core of fruit, it's supple and gourmand. Rating: 89-91 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2021)

Medium deep crimson purple. The style of the appellation shows through with its strawberry fruit and savoury touch. Very light touch with the stems. Then an exceptional weight of fruit behind, good tension, a tangy acidity and proper persistence. Well done. Tasted: November 2020 4/5 stars Rating: 91-93 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Jan 2021)

Mix of two parcels. ‘The same wine as the old village Gevrey but labelled with more precision’, says Perrot-Minot. Cask sample. Mouthful of bright fruit and lots of gas at the moment. Obviously denser with some chestnut character than the more southerly wines. Dry finish. Drinking range: 2027 - 2040 Rating: 17 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2020)

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village comes from La Justice des Sévrées was much more closed on the nose compared to the Chambolle-Musigny. The palate is silky smooth on the entry, vibrant red cherry and kirsch, touches of orange rind, a little sinew on the finish but it should develop more finesse by the time of bottling and will deserve 24-36 months in bottle. Drinking range: 2024 - 2036 Rating: 89-91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2020)

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
