MAZIS CHAMBERTIN

2019 Grand Cru Domaine Dugat-Py

EN PRIMEUR

A nose almost as suave as the Charmes Chambertin, but cooler, more serious. Sappy, silky softness to the palate too, despite all the obvious concentration. Very dark fruit and richly mineral tensile mid-palate, all wrapped in a thick softness. So intense and so long - and yet really all still very tight and and closed. Drinking range: 2035 - 2050L&S (Oct 2020)

This is surprisingly open and expressive for a young Mazis with its combination of ultra-spicy, floral and sauvage notes that add excellent breadth to the plum, violet and underbrush scents. Once again there is a gorgeous texture to the big-bodied, powerful and tautly muscular flavors that deliver absolutely huge length on the impeccably well-balanced finale. Again, this is not only a big wine but one that is also extremely firm so cellar it accordingly. Drinking range: 2039 - Rating: 93-96 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2021)

Brooding and reserved, the 2019 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru opens in the glass with notions of raspberries and cassis mingled with exotic spices, orange rind, peonies, loamy soil, grilled meats and other carnal bass notes. Full-bodied, multidimensional and searingly concentrated, it's layered and complete, with huge reserves of fruit, acidity and tannin, concluding with a long and penetrating finish. While this will demand patience, I suspect it will be a touch more demonstrative out of the gates than the very serious 2018 rendition. Rating: 95-97 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2021)

Cask sample. Rich blackberry nose. Very sumptuous even if without the race of the Mazoyères. Concentrated and youthful. Tastes so healthy. Tastes like a medicine! Drinking range: 2029 - 2045 Rating: 18+ Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2020)

The 2019 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, one of my favorite cuvées from Dugat-Py, does not disappoint this year. It contains 80% whole bunch with 75% new oak. Wonderful black cherries, bilberry and sea spray aromas feature on a nose that is extraordinarily focused and brimming over with energy. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated but firm tannins that frame multi-tiered black fruit laced with tobacco and graphite. Very precise on the finish, which lingers for 45+ seconds. Brilliant. Drinking range: 2025 - 2055 Rating: 96-98 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2020)

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.

Wines bought en primeur are scheduled to arrive in the UK over the course of the next eighteen months. Lea & Sandeman offers duty paid and in bond storage through a dedicated storage company called Elephant Storage. For more details on the terms and fees associated with storage please go to our Storage Homepage or contact our primeurs team for more information.

While helpful, we do not require a firm commitment on delivery destination to process your primeur order at this stage. Our team will be in contact with you when your wines arrive in the UK to confirm the necessary delivery details.
