MEURSAULT

2019 Chevalières Domaine Rémi Jobard

EN PRIMEUR

Very mineral from the start, there's lift and class here. Very very pure with a glassy translucency, all linear and long. Drinking range: 2024 - 2033L&S (Oct 2020)

* This is a pre-shipment/primeur offer. All orders are accepted under the TERMS of this offer which differ from the terms of the rest of the site.

(from vines planted in 1940). Cool, pure and strikingly elegant aromas exhibit notes of citrus tinged green apple and discreet spice wisps. The fine, delicious and delicate middle weight flavors also possess a really lovely texture before culminating in a very dry and linear finish where a touch of oak slowly surfaces. Drinking range: 2025 - Rating: 89 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jun 2021)

The 2019 Meursault Chevalières has a light, peppermint tinged bouquet that opens nicely with aeration. The palate is balanced with tropical notes of passion fruit, pineapple and nectarine, moderate acidity with a light tang of spice towards the finish. Pretty, but short term. Drinking range: 2022 - 2027 Rating: 87-89 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2021)

Cask sample. Suggestion of real extract on the light nose. Then lots of fruit impact on the palate with real substance but no excess alcohol and a distinct hint of mint. Everything seems set here for a pretty impressive future. Drinking range: 2024 - 2032 Rating: 16.5 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2021)

From a block planted in 1940, the oldest vines of the domaine. Lemon and lime colour, with elegance and finesse on the nose, plus some more muscular tension behind. Then there is significantly more muscle behind, a noticeably richer sunnier, white fruit style, though the wood again shows a bit at the moment, but will integrate. Very long indeed! Tasted: October 2020 **** Rating: 91-93 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Oct 2020)

Rémi has been making small qualitative changes ever since he took over here in 1996. The entire vineyard is cordon-pruned, so yields are naturally limited. There has been no use of fertiliser since 1994, and the vineyard is grassed-over to encourage the vine roots to go deep. The domaine has been certified organic from 2008. He says that the two most important things are the absence of weedkiller (and thus the necessity to plough, which cuts any surface roots and makes the vine go deeper) and not adding any fertiliser which again makes the roots go deeper to find nutrients.

Rémi has two vast presses, to enable him to press very slowly over six hours, and this has resulted in a big jump in finesse. The élevage now lasts nearly fifteen months, so as to allow the wines to develop slowly and to avoid fining. As a result these are wines which take a moment to show, but which reward the patient with complexity and great depth of flavour.

Rémi made a move from traditional barrels to foudres made of a mix of French, Austrian and Slavonian oak, constructed by Austrian cooper Stockinger, and having added a new one (or two) each year, there's barely a normal barrel left. He likes the way the wines develop in these large volumes, in which the 'oaking' effect is minimised.

STORAGE OPTIONS:

Wines bought en primeur are scheduled to arrive in the UK over the course of the next eighteen months. If you do not wish to take home delivery, you may wish to consider where you would like the wines shipped on arrival in the UK. Lea & Sandeman offers duty paid and in bond storage through a dedicated storage company called Elephant Storage. For more details on the terms and fees associated with storage please go to our Storage Homepage or contact our primeurs team for more information.

While helpful, we do not require a firm commitment on delivery destination to process your primeur order at this stage. Our team will be in contact with you when your wines arrive in the UK to confirm the necessary delivery details.
