NUITS SAINT GEORGES

2019 Vignes Centenaires Ultra 1er Cru La Richemone Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

EN PRIMEUR

Planted in 1902. Right at the northern end of Nuits, so close to Vosne and yet so clearly not Vosne - there's a distinct character of taut mineral-influenced fruit which is all its own, at once very dark and yet also with nearly minty, nearly orange zest, brightly defined. All the makings of a very great wine. Drinking range: 2028 - 2045L&S (Oct 2020)

This is a sensational wine and it is insanely decadent on both the nose and the palate. There is a heroic stance here and the beauty to power ratio is sensational Rating: 19+ Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (Jan 2021)

(from vines first planted in 1902). A ripe yet appealingly fresh and decidedly cool herbal tea-inflected nose blends together liqueur-like red and dark currant aromas with those of earth and floral nuances. There is outstanding richness to the full-bodied, powerful and mineral-driven middle weight flavors that possess a highly sophisticated texture while brimming with dry extract before terminating in a long, youthfully austere and well-balanced finale that is again shaped by dense but fine-grained tannins. This is terrific and I really like the mouthfeel. Drinking range: 2031 - Rating: 92-95 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2021)

A special old-vine selection, the 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru La Richemone Vieilles Vignes "Cuvée Ultra" is very promising, unwinding in the glass with aromas of raspberries, plums, sweet spices, loamy soil and espresso roast. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's lively and tightly wound, with beautifully refined tannins and tangy acids. Rating: 92-94 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2021)

The former « Cuvée Ultra », made from the 1902 vines. Utterly brilliant gorgeous bouquet, along with the dense purple colour, this is grand cru in the quality of the fruit, as well as the intensity, the stems give off a fractional volatility, but this is just such a magically complete wine, which has endless years ahead of it. Tasted: November 2020 5/5 stars Rating: 96-99 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Jan 2021)

He’s serving it at this point in the tasting order because it’s so concentrated. Dense but lively – very serious wine! GV? Drinking range: 2028 - 2046 Rating: 17.5 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2020)

The 2019 Nuit-Saint-Georges La Richemone Vieilles Vignes "Cuvée Ultra" has a very intense bouquet that threatens to overwhelm the sense: black cherries, boysenberry, violet with hints of sage and orange rind. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins that caress the sense, very Vosne-like in style with a satin-textured and very luxurious finish. This will be impossible to resist in its youth so don’t say I didn’t warn you. Drinking range: 2025 - 2050 Rating: 94-96 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2020)

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
