The 2019 Saint-Aubin En Remilly 1er Cru offers scents of apple blossom, pear and grapefruit on the nose, touches of flint and chalk. The palate is well balanced with green apple, Conference pear and noticeable saline notes that dominate the Puligny-like finish. Stern, but I can imagine this partnering fruits de mer with style. If you would like to put away a few cases for a year or two and end up with a Chassagne-shaped wine, then this is the cuvée to pick from the Joseph Colin portfolio. While the Chassagnes are undoubtedly impressive, with the 1er Cru Caillerets (£315 ib per case of 6 bottles) looking suitably grand, I think that in terms of elite value for money, this is the wine to go for. From two plots, Remilly itself on the plateau, which does not frost, and Les Cortons below. There was a decent crop in 2019 despite the comparative drought. 13.5%. Clear pale colour, the nose is quite restrained, with massive intensity on the palate, all in white fruit, not excessive, finishes very well. Domaine Joseph Colin
Joseph Colin is one of the four children of Marc Colin (the others being Pierre-Yves, Damien and Caroline), who had a large domaine with vines in Saint Aubin, Santenay, Chassagne and Puligny. Pierre-Yves left the family domaine in 2005 and since then Joseph was an important member of the team there. After making a token 1800 or so bottles on his own account in 2016, he started in earnest with 2017, with seven hectares of vines, from which he makes an astonishing nineteen different cuvées.
Most of the vines he has in Saint Aubin are young, but by limiting bunches to six or seven per vine, he manages to control the yields. With plenty of time to learn his craft at Domaine Marc Colin, he has developed into a confident winemaker. He experimented with sulphur levels in the wines at the family domaine, so coming to his current view that the wines should be left the longest time possible without added S02, perhaps adding some at racking, but if he feels there's still enough C02 after racking, he will not even add any at that stage, so as to develop 'wine at its purest', but he is keen to say also that he has no standard recipe - he will adapt to each wine. In 2018 he again used no S02 until just before bottling, but he's clear that if there's some botrytis, for example, he will add it earlier. Genarally nothing is either fined or filtered.
Joseph is a very bright new prospect for lovers of precise, pure white Burgundies with fresh acidity for crystalline definition.In 2018 Joseph picked over more than three weeks, starting on the 26th August and not finishing the last plots until the 20th of September.

OFFER: All wines are offered subject to availability and final confirmation.
PRICING: All prices are quoted IN BOND ex-VAT, by the case size stated. Please double check that the desired case size does match what is being offered as wines are variously listed in threes, sixes, dozens, halves and larger formats.
DELIVERY - TIMING: This is a primeur offer so the wines are not yet physically available for delivery. They will be shipped to the UK over the next eighteen months. Generally wines are shipped to your nominated location once the whole order has landed in our London City Bond account. If you require wines to be delivered by a certain date, please advise us at the time of ordering.
DELIVERY - FEES: In bond delivery to an Elephant Storage account (for more information see 'Storage Options' opposite) is free of charge. Transfer of wines to any third party bond (i.e. not Elephant Storage) will incur an administration charge of £16.50 + VAT for all orders under £1,000. If you require wines duty paid, please indicate this in your Wishlist order form. A duty & VAT invoice will be raised once all the wines on your order are available for shipment. Once the relevant duty & VAT has been settled, we will ship the wines to your nominated address as per our normal duty paid Delivery Terms.
PAYMENT: All orders will be invoiced for immediate payment by cheque, cash, debit card or cleared funds to our account. We regret that we cannot accept credit cards for primeur orders. We reserve the right to apply a dunning charge of 2% per month on invoices unpaid after 30 days.
