CHAMBERTIN

2020 Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

EN PRIMEUR

Initially less expressive than the Mazoyères, this is cool and slightly awkward on entry. Spicy tannins with freshness. Power and elegance - it's quite restrained about itself for now - a cool straightness. Like the others it softens into supple weight with warming, but remains more about mineral power than fruit - sensationally directed. Drinking range: 2035 - 2045L&S (Nov 2021)

* This is a pre-shipment/primeur offer. All orders are accepted under the TERMS of this offer which differ from the terms of the rest of the site.

Discreet, focused, and intense. Channeled, taut, and vibrant, to a powerful, wonderfully persistent and streamlined finish. Drinking range: 2030 - 2040 Rating: 98-99 World of Fine Wine Magazine (Apr 2022)

From vines situated in the northern sector of Chambertin and averaging about 55 to 58 years in age, Christophe chooses the picking date (as with his Clos de Bèze) for this 0.7-hectare parcel owned by Pierre Damoy. More and more frequently, vignerons emphasize the importance of the picking date, and that is surely part of the magic in this wine. First and foremost, it has incredible poise. One can almost miss the individual elements of the sublime structure thanks to their harmony. The black fruit flavors are dense but enrobed in gentlysculpted tannins and effortlessly lifted by dazzling acidity. The vinosity is dialed in and flourishes through the slowly unfurling finish. True brilliance. Drinking range: 2028 - 2050 Rating: 100 Christy Canterbury MW - TimAtkin.com (Feb 2022)

(from purchased grapes where Perrot has the right to intercede with certain aspects of the viticulture). A distinctly cool and definitely restrained nose grudgingly reveals its array of dark raspberry coulis, newly turned earth and sauvage wisps. There is outstanding volume to the concentrated, muscular and intensely mineral-driven flavors that really tighten up on the explosive, austere and very compact finale that just goes on and on. This too is marvelous. Drinking range: 2038 - Rating: 95-98 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2022)

Rich dark purple. The nose is magical in a very ripe register. Slightly dry tannins from the over ripe style. The cherry notes are very heady. Flirting with too much but unless that’s a problem for your palate this is gorgeously heady and not falling over. Tasted: December 2021 Rating: 94-97 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Jan 2022)

The 2020 Chambertin Grand Cru has a very complex bouquet that unfolds in the glass, a mélange of red and black fruit, pressed violets, rose petal and just a touch of autumn woodland. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of white pepper on the entry, quite saline in the mouth with a sapid finish. Like Perrot-Minot’s other wines, this rests in the red fruit profile and it has the substance to age well in bottle. Drinking range: 2027 - 2052 Rating: 95-97 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2021)

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
