CHAMBOLLE MUSIGNY

2020 Vieilles Vignes Ultra 1er Cru Combe d'Orveau Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

EN PRIMEUR

Trace of liquorice in the spicy nose. Richly dense but also powerfully driven, with real tension and energy. Silky tannins, and the flavours just get more and more interesting, so gourmand in the little toasty sweetness and lively acid balance. Drinking range: 2027 - 2040L&S (Nov 2021)

* This is a pre-shipment/primeur offer. All orders are accepted under the TERMS of this offer which differ from the terms of the rest of the site.

The warmly seductive, rose-garden bouquet wafts into a richly perfumed palate, where a ribbon of silk is entwined with freshness. Its lively frothiness, texture, and aromas capture the essence of Chambolle. Drinking range: 2027 - 2035 Rating: 95-96 World of Fine Wine Magazine (Apr 2022)

Christophe's vines sit in the bottom of this Premier Cru, and they're about 80 years old. Black cherries, currants, match strike and potting soil fuel the dramatic nose. The finish shows mildly firm tannins with invigorating acidity that will nicely hold this wine for years to come. Drinking range: 2024 - 2035 Rating: 95 Christy Canterbury MW - TimAtkin.com (Feb 2022)

(this limited two-barrel cuvée is crafted from 70+ year old vines that abut the Musigny climat of La Combe d'Orveau, which is a monopole of Domaine Jacques Prieur). Here too the strikingly pure nose is cool, restrained and elegant with a huge variety of floral and spice nuances adding breadth to the airy essence of red pinot fruit scents. The wonderfully textured and chiseled medium-bodied flavors exude an almost pungent minerality on the equally persistent and moderately austere finale. This is both classy and very stylish. Drinking range: 2032 - Rating: 93-95 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2022)

70-year-old vines on clay-limestone soil. Perrot-Minot own two different parcels of this vineyard, the first higher, with well-drained, pebbly soils has been put into the Chambolle villages since 2016. The second parcel, lower down the slope close to the Musigny Grand Cru, is heavier in lime bring extra body and intensity. Cask sample. Playful red-fruited profile matched with something quite substantial. Great concentration, with the sweetness of the fruit cut through by a swathe of mouth-watering acidity. Drinking range: 2025 - 2035 Rating: 17.5+ Matthew Hayes, www.jancisrobinson.com (Jan 2022)

A much richer purple colour. The nose is jaw-dropping too. This though has a sublime velvet opulence compared to the more vertical style of Richemone. Sensuality to the ultimate degree, just a few tannins, and some may find this just a fraction too ripe. Tasted: December 2021 Rating: 92-96 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Jan 2022)

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d'Orveau "Cuvée Ultra" has one of the most mineral-driven aromatics from Perrot-Minot, crushed limestone filtering through the vivacious red fruit, hints of orange blossom emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, fine structure, not big-boned however with a finely chiselled, quite spicy finish. Excellent. Drinking range: 2025 - 2048 Rating: 93-95 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2021)

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
