CHARMES CHAMBERTIN
2020 Grand Cru Domaine Dugat-Py
The Dugats have nearly a hectare here, so this one is not high-trained like the smaller plots. There's a sweet roundness to the fruit here, a whiff of patisserie gourmandise. Juicy and sleek, fine and supple - just so much juice, then mineral coming on the finish and extending the extraordinary length.L&S (Nov 2021)

This Charmes has more of that rustic Gevrey-ness to it than many other Charmes, very likely due to its one-third that hails from Mazoyères. Tea leaves, forest floor and mushrooms mix with wild strawberries and black cherries. The strong mineral notes linger through the dense and intense finish. Firm, lightly gruff tannins and vigorous acidity will give this excellent age-ability. The vines range in age from 50 to 90 years old. Drinking range: 2026 - 2045 Rating: 96 Christy Canterbury MW - TimAtkin.com (Feb 2022)
The 2020 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is brilliant, wafting from the glass with aromas of cherries, peonies, sweet spices, rose petals and forest floor. Full-bodied, seamless and enveloping, it's elegant and sensual, with an ample core of vibrant, concentrated fruit and a long, expansive finish. Suave and harmonious, it's the finest Charmes from Dugat-Py that I've ever tasted from barrel. Rating: 95-97 William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2022)
(a blend of one-third Mazoyères and two-thirds Charmes proper – the fruit comes from a mix of mostly 20+ year-old vines and a small percentage of extremely old vines; 60% stems). Cool, pure and engagingly floral-suffused nose that reflects additional notes of both red and dark currant and earth. The lilting yet powerful middle weight flavors possess very fine mid-palate density as well as good minerality on the bitter cherry pit-inflected finale. This gorgeous effort needs more depth, but the underlying material appears to be present for that to occur. Drinking range: 2038 - Rating: 93-95 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2022)
Cask sample. Deep cherry; rich, iodine-infused nose; violets, raspberry, griotte cherries and very ripe redcurrants; tannins go quite large. Serious substance, and not for the near term. Drinking range: 2030 - 2045 Rating: 17.5+ Matthew Hayes, www.jancisrobinson.com (Jan 2022)
