MAZOYÈRES CHAMBERTIN

2020 Grand Cru Domaine Dugat-Py

EN PRIMEUR

This is, as Loic says, a more masculine expression. Serious dry dark depth, thick texture and broad in the mouth, then powerful and intense too, with the wild edge and amazing length.L&S (Nov 2021)

This is one to wait on. Given its concentration, persistence and flair, it will be well worth it. The youthful nose is pungent with spice, crunchy black currants and black plum skin. While bold and muscular, the palate is beautifully sculpted by velvety tannins and tingling acidity. Joyously sumptuous and harmonious, the plums, graphite and game notes power into a very long finish. Loïc said he's always very attentive to the vinification here as this can easily turn too masculine. Drinking range: 2028 - 2050 Rating: 98 Christy Canterbury MW - TimAtkin.com (Feb 2022)

The 2020 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru marks another step in the direction of elegance for this historically rather firm cuvée, and it has gained immeasurably in charm while losing nothing in intensity or concentration. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of cherries, wild berries, sweet spices, forest floor and burning embers, it's full-bodied, ample and layered, with a velvety attack that segues into a fleshy mid-palate and a long, perfumed finish. Rating: 94-96+ William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2022)

(from a .25 ha parcel and vinified with ~80% stems). There is just enough reduction to mask all but discreet floral nuances. The delicious, vibrant and more powerful larger-scaled flavors exude notably more minerality on the youthfully austere and superbly persistent finale. This beauty could also use a bit more depth. Drinking range: 2040 - Rating: 93-95 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2022)

Stony soils with a very shallow band of topsoil; 45-year-old vines. Cask sample. Deep ruby; simpler fruit than the Charmes but more complete. Very concentrated. Drinking range: 2030 - 2045 Rating: 17.5 Matthew Hayes, www.jancisrobinson.com (Jan 2022)

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.

Wines bought en primeur are scheduled to arrive in the UK over the course of the next eighteen months. Lea & Sandeman offers duty paid and in bond storage through a dedicated storage company called Elephant Storage. For more details on the terms and fees associated with storage please go to our Storage Homepage or contact our primeurs team for more information.

While helpful, we do not require a firm commitment on delivery destination to process your primeur order at this stage. Our team will be in contact with you when your wines arrive in the UK to confirm the necessary delivery details.
