MAZOYÈRES CHAMBERTIN

2020 Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

EN PRIMEUR

Overtly spicy, and the texture is immediately flattering, if not so sweetly gourmand and spicy at the outset as the Charmes, it's even more weighty, a cool heavy black silk curtain shot through with bright red fruit threads. Fabulous volume and mass and the spiciness is all here in the finish too. Very very long. Drinking range: 2032 - 2045L&S (Nov 2021)

* This is a pre-shipment/primeur offer. All orders are accepted under the TERMS of this offer which differ from the terms of the rest of the site.

This is again a single parcel, this time of 0.7 hectare. His grand-father planted it 56 years ago with massale selections, and Christophe plans to start using the same material for massale in two years. This is a fervently smoky, mildly exotic wine with black cherries, black tea leaves, spice rack and turned earth. The tannins are soft with a wool-like texture, and the bracing acidity pulls the minerally tones into the prolonged finished. Drinking range: 2028 - 2045 Rating: 96 Christy Canterbury MW - TimAtkin.com (Feb 2022)

A beautifully layered nose freely offers up its aromas of spicy and markedly floral notes as well as purple fruit, pungent earth and hints of the sauvage. Once again there is a beguiling texture to the bigger-bodied and more powerful flavors that brim with dry extract on the raspy, firm and very serious finale. Patience necessary. Drinking range: 2037 - Rating: 93-95 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2022)

55-year-old vines. Cask sample. Thick and concentrated with a very sweet, fruited core. Its sincere charm and depth is almost too forward except for the finely grained but significant structure and tannins. Despite the sweetness, this is built to last. Drinking range: 2030 - 2045 Rating: 18 Matthew Hayes, www.jancisrobinson.com (Jan 2022)

Full deep purple, with a brilliant nose, the mineral stoniness shining through the weight of fruit. Ripely perfumed, intoxicatingly heady, rich dense red cherries at the back of the mouth, with a sprawling sensual exceptionally long finish. Very successful. Immensely long finish. Tasted: December 2021 Rating: 95-98 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Jan 2022)

The 2020 Mazoyères-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru takes time to step up through the gears on the nose, eventually revealing very airy and pure red cherry, strawberry and bergamot scents, hints of damp earth/autumn leaves. The palate is medium-bodied with a little sappiness on the entry. This has a little more weight than the Chapelle-Chambertin with a spicier/black pepper tinged finish. Great persistence again, this is one for the cellar. Drinking range: 2028 - 2055 Rating: 95-97 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2021)

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
