NUITS SAINT GEORGES

2020 Vignes Centenaires Ultra 1er Cru La Richemone Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

EN PRIMEUR

This is as fabulous as usual this year, the old vines giving a spectacular richness, both in terms of the filled-out completeness on the nose and the weight and volume in the mouth, all balanced and held in check by a little frisson of tautness on the finish. A truly exceptional Nuits Saint Georges. Drinking range: 2028 - 2040L&S (Nov 2021)

* This is a pre-shipment/primeur offer. All orders are accepted under the TERMS of this offer which differ from the terms of the rest of the site.

Rich and creamy. Concentrated and dense. Ubersmooth chocolate tannins. The freshness comes up under the palate to a fresh and spicy finish, with notes of anise and oregano. Drinking range: 2028 - 2035 Rating: 95 World of Fine Wine Magazine (Apr 2022)

These vines planted in 1902 sit at the northern end of Nuits in the line of Boudots (Nuits) and Aux Malconsorts (Vosne). Christophe had 1 hectare 02 ares that he rented until LVMH swept in and purchased half of it in 2021. Christophe's sense of loss was palpable. However, he will continue to make this stellar wine, which in 2020 turns out to be a sexy, spicy and lightly smoky blend of succulent red plums and field strawberries laced with flinty minerality. Crisp tannins and mouth-watering acidity deliver tremendous refreshment and structure. Drinking range: 2024 - 2035 Rating: 95 Christy Canterbury MW - TimAtkin.com (Feb 2022)

(from vines first planted in 1902). A cool, restrained and wonderfully elegant and airy nose presents wafting aromas of red currant, plum, dark currant, spice and essence of violet. The super-sleek and seductively textured middle weight flavors brim with both minerality and sappy dry extract that buffers the dense but ultra-fine grain tannins supporting the equally persistent and youthfully austere finish. In a word, marvelous. Drinking range: 2035 - Rating: 93-95 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2022)

Vines planted around 1902 on deep, pebbly well-drained soils of clay and limestone. Cask sample. Bold and forthright, stamped with that Nuits firmness and authority. An elegance of fruit too, but it’s quite closed up and ungiving for now. It’s a powerful, sensuous beauty. Drinking range: 2025 - 2035 Rating: 17.5+ Matthew Hayes, www.jancisrobinson.com (Jan 2022)

This is its usual ultra-magnificent self possibly for the last time in the Centenarian format. The domaine owns a proportion of the vineyard, but the part which was leased has gone to Domaine des Lambrays, though with some of the vineyard ceded back to Perrot-Minot. For years now, Christophe’s bottling of La Richemone has been one of the outstanding wines of Burgundy and the 2020 is no exception. There is a nobility to the fruit, an intensity matched by a vibrancy, that is almost unsurpassed anywhere on the Côte. It is all in red fruits while the whole bunches just add more energy and the finish is phenomenally long. Tasted: December 2021 Rating: 96-100 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Jan 2022)

The 2020 Nuit-Saint-Georges La Richemone Vieilles Vignes "Cuvée Ultra" has an elegant bouquet, once again, firmly within the red fruit spectrum with wild strawberry, cranberry and raspberry fruit interlaced with crushed stone and light lavender notes. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, taut and fresh, a fine bead of acidity with a transparent and tensile finish that lingers long in the mouth. This has a great deal of potential - very suave. Drinking range: 2025 - 2042 Rating: 94-96 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2021)

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
