VOSNE ROMANÉE

2020 Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru Beaux Monts Christophe Perrot-Minot

EN PRIMEUR

Sensational nose with something very fresh, almost minty. It's really very expressive. Cool fresh and voluminous in the mouth with red and black fruit rolling around together, so thick and rich. Astonishing balance of richness and freshness makes it hard to spit. Immense length. Drinking range: 2027 - 2040L&S (Nov 2021)

High-toned floral notes. A fine-boned wine. Intense, ripe, but delicate, with a taffeta texture and fine tannin. This showcases purity entwined with minerality and has such precision to finish. Reserved and discreet. Love it. Drinking range: 2027 - 2035 Rating: 95-96 World of Fine Wine Magazine (Apr 2022)

This wine comes from a a single parcel that is 55 years old. And, wow, does it make a snappy Les Beaux Monts! You can feel the hillside terroir - plus Christophe is in the upper portion of this Premier Cru - in the tingly acidity, crunchy red fruits and light tannic tug. Red cherries, dried cranberries and grated spices glide into a harmonious, lingering finish. Drinking range: 2024 - 2034 Rating: 94 Christy Canterbury MW - TimAtkin.com (Feb 2022)

(from a .49 ha parcel on the Vosne side). A markedly floral nose presents notes of lilac, lavender, violet and rose petal along with a plethora of spice elements on the high-toned and airy red cherry and raspberry scents. At the risk of repeating myself, here the texture of the intense and delineated medium-bodied flavors is wonderfully pure and sophisticated while delivering superb length on the dusty, youthfully austere and hugely long finale. This has the potential to be a great VRBM in time. Drinking range: 2032 - Rating: 92-95 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2022)

70-year-old vines on clay-limestone soils opposite Bonnes Mares. Cask sample. There’s a light colour and breezy perfume to this – florals and iodine, but just too sweet for me today. It will need to blossom and heave off the baby fat. There’s definite elegance and charm though. Drinking range: 2025 - 2035 Rating: 17+ Matthew Hayes, www.jancisrobinson.com (Jan 2022)

Dense black purple, a bouquet which is full of energy with its black and red mix, just on the palate this is a little bit more in the direction of cooked fruit and drier tannins behind. Needs to open out more and relax the grip. Tasted: December 2021 Rating: 90-93 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Jan 2022)

The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru is very beguiling on the nose with perfumed red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit, wilted rose petals and light lavender scents. The palate is medium-bodied with very pliant tannins, a fine line of acidity, very elegant with a poised and mineral-driven finish. What a gorgeous Les Beaux Monts. Drinking range: 2025 - 2050 Rating: 94-96 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2021)

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
