Bottled in a clear glass bottle which shows off the very pretty pink hue of this excellent champagne. Delicately fruity, fresh, light and dry, it is extraordinarily good for the price. L&S (Aug 2018)
*Case price: Mix any 12 bottles of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.
Good, affordable pink Champagne is much harder to find than its white counterpart, so this is one to remember. It's as approachable in style as it is in price: elegant and fresh with soft red fruit and a delicate biscuit flavour. It's also an enticing, pale salmon-pink – and colour counts in this category. Rating: 89 www.thewinegang.com (Apr 2016)
Salmon colour with evolving raspberry and cherry jelly aromas, Hints of lemon with rosehips and wild thyme on the palate. Rating: 85+ Decanter Magazine (Dec 2014)
Benedick comes from a family-owned 'négociant-manipulant' which also has considerable vineyard holdings, which may help explain the consistently high quality they maintain at a price which may be marginally higher than the cheapest, but for a quality level which is always much higher.
There's always room for celebration when Champagne is this good at this price! Made especially for LEA & SANDEMAN by a family-owned négociant-manipulant near Epernay, Champagne Benedick is mostly Pinot Noir which lends a little more bready/briochey character to the crisp elegant fruit. How can you say no?!
Pink bubbles - how delightfully decadent is that? And it doesn't come more delightfully decadent and pink and fizzy than Rosé Champagne. Some of Champagne's most interesting wines are those made by the smaller 'grower' producers. Witness the Pinot heavy wines of Barnaut in Bouzy, and the mostly Chardonnay R&L Legras from Chouilly. And for sheer 'wow' appeal, there is the extraordinary 100% Pinot Noir rosé de saignée from Larmandier-Bernier at Vertus. Of the more famous names, there is a deserved cult following for Billecart-Salmon Rosé - drier than its rivals with a freshness to the fruit that is delightful. Then there's the lush berried embrace of Gosset from Champagne's oldest producer. And for luxury, there is the 2011 Vintage Louis Roederer Rosé Champagne - a small amount of wood ageing and longer time on the lees for a touch more complexity and ageing ability.
