The Loire Valley is overlooked at this time of year, but really is the total quintessence of Christmas feast wine. Crémant de Loire is a fantastic Champagne alternative, boasting many of its cousin’s toasty, honeyed brioche flavours. Muscadet and Pouilly-Fumé are not only incredible with smoked salmon, cheese nibble or any of the snacks you might have prior to dinner, but also are absolute table pleasers (who doesn’t love a refined Sauvignon Blanc…) and Cabernet Franc is a grape which, in both these guises, is perfect with turkey. Our Anjou rouge is bright red berry, like your cranberry sauce and our Chinon, more savoury and rich, for when the gravy goes on.

Finish this off with a well-aged bottle of Coteaux du Layon, one of the world’s great sweet wine appellations. It’s not only affordable, but creamy, buttery and not nearly as cloying as some of the more traditional options.
