Dressed in a unique color that I would describe as a salmon pink with orange reflections, Gosset's NV Grand Rosé Brut – a blend of 58% Chardonnay and 42% Pinot Noir, 8% red wine inclusive) – opens with a highly delicate and matured, vinous bouquet of red fruits. Pure, light, highly elegant, round and intense on the fruity-mineral palate, this is a picture-book Champagne of great finesse and delicacy. The persistent finish is lovely, pure and extremely stimulating in its salty/mineral freshness; whereas the fruit is articulated in an aristocratic reticence and perfectly integrated into the noble, overall expression. No malolactic fermentation. This is the kind of sample that I don't want to give away, but drink for myself. Gorgeous! Rating: 93-93 Stephan Reinhart, The Wine Advocate, erobertparker.com (Jun 2016)
Attractive pale pink hue. This has a delicate set of aromas of wild cherry and some lighter pastry notes, really fresh. The palate has bright, crisp red fruit flavor and a thread of grapefruit too. Really fine, elegant, crisp, dry and focused. Rating: 93 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Jul 2015)
The NV Brut Grand Rosé is a big, structured Champagne. It comes across as a touch sweeter than is the norm here, but that just may be a factor of the wine's considerable fruit. All sorts of freshly cut flowers, berries and minerals come together in the glass. The wine gains volume and depth in the glass, showing the many shades of dimension that make it such a great choice for the dinner table. Rating: 90 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com
Vivid pink with a lively mousse. Redcurrant and dried cherry on the nose, with subtle floral and cinnamon notes adding complexity. Juicy red fruit flavors are firmed by gentle mineral and bitter cherry skin qualities, gaining depth with air. Finishes with dusty mineral grip and excellent persistence. Rating: 91-91 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Founded in 1584, Gosset is the oldest sparkling wine house in Champagne. Still fiercely independent the quality of their wines is still among the very best of the Grandes Marques and very much among our favourites. Rich and robust champagnes, made using a large percentage of older reserve wines, the top wines having been partially fermented in oak barrels.
Pink bubbles - how delightfully decadent is that? And it doesn't come more delightfully decadent and pink and fizzy than Rosé Champagne. Some of Champagne's most interesting wines are those made by the smaller 'grower' producers. Witness the Pinot heavy wines of Barnaut in Bouzy and the iconic Egly-Ouriet in Ambonnay, and the mostly Chardonnay R&L Legras from Chouilly. And for sheer 'wow' appeal, there is the extraordinary 100% Pinot Noir rosé de saignée from Larmandier-Bernier at Vertus. Of the more famous names, there is a deserved cult following for Billecart-Salmon Rosé - drier than its rivals with a freshness to the fruit that is delightful. And for luxury, there is the 2009 Vintage Louis Roederer Rosé Champagne - a small amount of wood ageing and longer time on the lees for a touch more complexity and ageing ability.
