This is a very stylist wine - flamboyant but for all the right reasons. It has everything you want on the nose: truffles, Brazil nuts, blood orange and fried flowers, then definition, energy and precision on the palate. A great food wine that deserves something posh: like turbot with a sage and tarragon cream sauce. Drinking range: 2016 - 2026Gerard Basset OBE MW MS, Decanter(Oct 2016)
Blend of some 120 wines, of ten or more vintages, a rich yet elegant Champagne. The daddy of Bubbles to give this Christmas.Olly Smith, The Mail on Sunday(Dec 2014)
Because it's been blended from 10 different vintages and 47 different wines from 25 crus, Krug is a super mutli-vintage of its own kind. The extremely tough acidity, together with the heavy, rich Krug aromas, are unique. This bottle had a fabulously complex nose and palate, dominated by nuts and honey. The aftertaste was acidic, long and majestic, like a great symphony. Drinking range: 2014 - 2030 Rating: 96-96 Decanter Magazine
Light toasty aromas of almonds, truffles and mushroom hints. When you sip it, the bubbles are impeccably delicate on the palate and the flavours last for an astonishingly long time. Incredible persistence and intensity powered by layers of honeyed and zingy fruit blended from 10 different vintages and 47 wines from 25 villages. In this compelling wine there is delicacy along with awesome finesse and complexity. Bravo! Rating: 94-94 The Wine Gang - www.thewinegang.com
The grandest of the Grande Marques. Johann-Joseph Krug, who was born in Mainz, founded Champagne Krug in 1843, having previously worked at Jacquesson and marrying Adolphe Jacquesson's sister-in-law. The Company is still controlled by the Krug family - Olivier Krug being the current incumbent - although ownership was sold to LVMH in 1999. Krug are the only House to barrel ferment all their wines - in "de-seasoned" 205 litre casks of Argonne oak. The rich Krug style also comes from prolonged lees ageing and the very high proportion of reserve wines in the blend.
