Bowmore

David Simson founded Bowmore Distillery in 1779 on the shores of Loch Indaal and it is the oldest distillery on the island of Islay, and one of the oldest in the whole of Scotland. The waters of the Riber Laggan, steeped in rich Islay peat, bring much of the character of the island to the mash and to the finished whisky. That same peat is used to fire the kiln that dry the Malt at Bowmore's own Maltings.
